Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
[To get from the uptown transit station to Nicollet and 7th typically takes me about 30 minutes. You should be able to get from the core of uptown to the core of downtown in 15 minutes max. There needs to be something that goes directly between the two with no stops or that at least has a dedicated...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Uptown is pitifully served considering it is the densest, most urban neighborhood outside of downtown and it is less than 2.5 miles from the core of downtown. It takes half an hour to get from uptown to the core of the CBD via tranist. In NYC, you can go the over 8 miles from west Harlem to to the ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Let's get away from alignment for the moment. :) Also considering how SW station already has a huge P&R station, as will Mitchell, another one at this location would be rather redundant. I have a feeling Mitchell is going to go. If we need to cut the budget, that's where to do it. Extra trackage...

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Elections
But unfortunately he seems to take the safe route just as an ambassador and booster of the city. This has value, but I want to see more execution on projects. The Streets.mn article yesterday is a good example: There has been a vision for Washington Ave for years, but we're just starting to discuss...

Re: Van White Memorial Bridge
I think if you page through the SW LRT proposal they create some sort of pedestrian/bike connection That's a start, but it's not all about the LRT either. I want to see better connections between the North and South sides so that people, commerce, etc. can flow more easily between the wonderful com...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Yes, it is interesting that David thinks NoMi "deserves" a connection to the southwest suburbs, while Uptown does not, despite actual geographic proximity. And the assertion that Uptown already has lots of (slow) buses, therefore doesn't deserve to be connected to the regional transit sys...

Re: Van White Memorial Bridge
It's a good point about creating a new freeway access to Uptown. I hadn't thought of that.
All I know is that we need some kind of better connection here. Van White is nice but it will cause some congestion issues. And we really should have a connection from Lowry Hill to the Penn Ave. station.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Infrastructure should follow demand, not the other way around. This is why it is irresponsible to build stops at 21st, Penn, and Van White in barren wastelands at the expense connecting an existing regional destination. But you don't seem to understand that Uptown *is already connected.* An LRT wou...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Why doesn't the North side focus on investing in existing neighborhoods that have been destroyed by disinvestment and population loss? Because the North Side is not a homogenous area. There are many neighborhoods there, each with their own priorities. Harrison is extremely well organized and politi...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Yes, Whittier is quite diverse. It also has excellent transit coverage. North Minneapolis does not. Um, what? You have a problem with the uber-frequent 5 and 19? Sure, frequency on the 7, 14, and 22 could be better, but not every bus line in south is hi-frequency either. Not to mention the whole th...

Re: Van White Memorial Bridge
Since Van White will dump everyone out into the Bottleneck, a great complementary project would be to connect Penn completely over Bassett Creek Valley. It winds right onto Franklin in Kenwood and would be a wonderful connector between the Northside and the Lowry Hill area. It would also generate mo...

Re: Van White Memorial Bridge
Technically isn't there a plan for that whole area, including the storage area, and impound lots? That's the Bassett Creek Valley Master Plan. It was worked on for over a decade by Bryn Mawr and Harrison residents. It's in the Minneapolis comp. plan. It would be such an amazing location, close to D...

(in old-timey newsman voice) This just in: experienced developers and city planning staff smarter than the general public and average neighborhood group member. Indeed. I saw the changed plans a mile away. Frankly, it would be hard to miss for anyone without blinders on. Some neighborhood members d...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
I am not in fact a longtime UrbanMSP lurker. I've been on here a day and a half. I have, however, been actively working on transit campaigns and issues for quite some time. I do know what I'm talking about. Bottineau is not the same thing as Southwest. It serves a different type of job cluster. Both...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
There is *no* reasonable transit option from [just about anywhere] to jobs [just about anywhere else]. That's why the Kenilworth alignment is so damn important. Please quote me accurately. I made a limited statement for a reason. That wealth and opportunity gap in the Twin Cities is absolutely sham...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Any idea why we are planning two lines that will each have stops at Van White and Penn? Seems like overkill... one of the reasons why the now-LPA was chosen was because it supposedly served transit lacking North Mpls (even TLC was all over this lousy claim). It is not a "lousy claim." It ...
