Re: Tolling Urban Freeways

Many great transit systems, including the NYC subway and the Twin City Rapid Transity company, arose as private ventures. Same with passenger intercity railroad service - these things thrived, even when charging market rates. Not entirely true. While TCRT was a privately held company, they were als...

This seems significant, even if only psychologically....

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Count me in among the excessively sweaty. I really think people are hung up on feeling sweaty and smelly after biking/exercise when in fact they probably don't smell at all. If you shower before your bike commute, you'll probably be ok for the rest of the day. I've been biking (and sweating) to work...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

From today's Strib Anoka County Commissioner Matt Look asked why the Met Council has virtually rejected a less expensive idea: having the freight and LRT run next to each other in the Kenilworth corridor and rerouting the recreational trails for about a mile at the narrowest points. “We have a solut...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

The Dean Parkway and Cedar Lake route is horribly paved and Dean too small to share with traffic. Agreed. I was thinking of Thatcher's idea to continue west on the Greenway, cross the tracks and hook up with St. Louis Ave. From there you can get back on Cedar Lake Trail pretty easily. After biking ...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

I bike the "Burnham Trail" for my commute from S Mpls to SLP. If they co-locate rail and LRT, I wouldn't miss that section one bit. As a matter of fact, I would be happy to see the elimination of one of the worst bike/street crossings in Minneapolis. Bikers blow through the stop sign on th...

Re: Vikings Stadium

um... NO! Where can i go and speak out against closing these roads? as someone buying a property in Elliot Park, I would rather not see my neighborhood severed from the river even more than it already is by the stadium... I'm sure Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin and Board Chair Mike O...

Re: Minneapolis Armory

Something about what you just said sparked an idea......what if Minneapolis created some kind of formal gathering place, like a market, where people could network with one-another and exchange ideas and maybe even coffee -- in person? A "marketplace of the mind", if you will. It would be ...

Re: Thrivent Blocks

Very cool. The only thing is - do you think it would be too much of a competitor with the Midtown Global Market? If the West Side Market was placed at the Armory, it would compete directly with the MIdtown Global Market, and potentially trump it. Do you think so? I'm not sure what Midtown Market's ...

Re: Park and Portland

I haven't been to these streets since the snow. How is it biking on them now? Is the bike lane completely ignored, with cars forming three lanes? Are the parked cars fully encroached on the bike lanes like they had been in winters past? After the big storm a couple weeks ago, it was pretty bad on P...

Re: Loring Park Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

My kids all went to that formerly great school (long complicated story). As long as that remains a school, the parking will remain. I dislike underutilized surface parking as much as the next person, but that whole lot, including the playground would fill up on certain days of the year, conferences ...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure.

We're talking about a ROW-constrained street that's going to have two way traffic, on-street parking, badly plowed snowbanks, and an active city bus pulling in and out of bus stops. In this scenario, no, 10' lanes aren't adequate. If I had my druthers, I'd move the bikes to 24th and use any street ...

Re: Park and Portland

Well, if online comments are any indication, most people want to see the status quo. I'm not suggesting that the status quo is the right answer, but I am suggesting that most people feel that way. Point taken. Perhaps the reason people feel that way is 1) Something is being taken away 2) People don...

Good for them, but it's not a very good representation of what most people would like to see.
Just curious. What is it most people would like to see?
