Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Metro Transit's local bus and Blue Line LRT ridership hit COVID-era peaks in March 2022. The other services are also on the upswing from January/February, but short of their ridership from Sept/Oct 2021. These are typical seasonal patterns, but at a lower baseline. Overall the system is at 44.24% of...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Sorry, the argument being made here is that because a single half-mile cycletrack hasn't been well-used when you've watched it, then the city should eliminate cycletracks altogether?
You'll have to forgive the rest of us for not finding that case especially airtight.

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
So in the summer of 2020, the existing building on this site was demolished. But the proposed and approved new building was not built. Now it looks like the land has been sold and a new developer has pitched something different and better in almost every single respect. The new project would also b...

A nine unit market rate addition to the Get Down Coffee Co. + Houston White Men's Room building has been submitted to the city. If you've been to the site, you know that this has been in the works for a while and they've had a rendering of this project up on the fence. But this is a more significan...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
I never doubted that they would pick Broadway, which has always been the obvious route , but I'm still glad to see it official. To me, one of the things I'd like to see as the project gets a bit more into detailed design is a look at landscaping every single inch possible of the right-of-way on Broa...

Re: Richfield - 66th Street - General Topics
I just came back from Toronto, where there are major clusters of high-rise apartments and retail deep into the suburban areas. There's no reason why Richfield has to settle for something like this. They should reject impoverished thinking like this plan and demand a truly urban development. The site...

Yeah, if I could copy and paste this basic model on every interior lot in the city, I would.

Re: Excelsior, Wayzata and Lake Minnetonka area
Without getting into moral judgements, the value proposition for private school in terms of dollars and cents has never made sense to me. Just the cost of Grades 9-12 at Minnehaha Academy is $107,220. K-12, it's $284,715. Is the marginal value of an education there worth the money? If you can afford...

A brewery would be a phenomenal use for this space, but it seems like a tough time to start (or keep open) a brewery.I feel like it could easily be converted into a brewery or distillery or something along those lines!

Re: Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis - General Topics
The planning commission's reasoning is pretty shocking in its sloppiness. To go over this point by point: ** A. Rezoning. 1. The project site is a two minute walk away from the furthest stop of the high frequency #10 bus at Central and Spring Street and a six minute walk from the furthest possible l...

Re: Latest Census Estimates and Met Council Projections
The Census 1 year estimates have always been a bit dodgy, and I can only imagine that the pandemic exacerbated those issues. I think these are useful for telling a certain story, especially in relation to each other within the same year but "what is the exact population of X?" probably isn...

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
The "bike lanes" on the Lake-Marshall Bridge are really just narrow shoulders. It would be tricky to reconfigure the bridge in the near term, since the sidewalk is protected by a heavy barrier that can't be cheaply moved. If you were to do it, you could shave a foot off each of the travel ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
An important question here that obviously won't get asked is whether it's a good thing that these areas grow quickly. Because adding lane miles will not have a neutral impact on that growth. I thought we had a housing shortage in the area. There absolutely is a housing shortage, but it doesn't foll...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
It's no secret that the Union Depot isn't positioned perfectly, but I think the complaints are a bit overwrought. The Green, Gold, and Purple Lines all make stops elsewhere in the downtown, so there are closer stations for everyone. Terminating at Union Depot makes sense because it has layover facil...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
I was thinking about the idea of highway removals through cities and I don't know if this is better suited for fantasy maps but if you could greenlight them how far would you remove them? Take 35W and 35E for example would you just remove the sections that cut through the centers of Minneapolis and...

Plans for a mixed-use building at 1300 W Broadway (right at the start of the curve) called The Resolute have been submitted to the city. The city's application database says it would have 71 rental units and retail space for a barber shop, a day care, a bar, and a cafe. That could be pretty excitin...

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
The vocal support from the County level, especially Commissioner Reinhardt who actually lives in WBL, is really essential to keeping the project on track. While the new opposition from the town is pretty plainly meritless and tardy, it would still have weight if other politicians decided to go along...
