Re: Major League Soccer in Minnesota
Exciting to read that! What do you think? Are they actually going to use "Minneapolis" in place of the usual "Minnesota" in front of the team's nickname? I'd love to see Minneapolis in front or even Twin Cities or Minneapolis - St. Paul being soccer is much more popular in the T...

Re: Opus Ritz Block Development
This thread is useless and speculative because we have 3 data points about any development here and they all were played on the first page. Your opinion isn't useless per se but it does seem myopic to me. Many commentators have noticed the lack of parks and greenery in downtown Minneapolis. This is...

Re: Opus Ritz Block Development
Last time I checked the best proposal was a park, which would be a complete waste. I for one am happy to take this useless and speculative thread off topic. Do you really think that Downtown Minneapolis has enough parks? Where do you go to eat your lunch outside? How is stating that the development...

Re: Opus Ritz Block Development
There are a lot of high profile developers looking to build downtown - I think that the last time we had this was back in the 1980s. Really? We will see just how interested all the high profile developers are when the city issues a request for proposals (RFP)for the Nicollet site, which is one of t...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Unsolicited opinion #4,519: What they could do is scrap the block with the piddly six story apartment building and the two-thirds block ‘o park, and do something like a building wrapping around a public square on the corner of Portland and 4th Street that faces the remaining, full-block park and th...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
The new Vikings stadium has already lost its first bid to host a major event. Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay beat out the new Vikings stadium as host site for the 2017 College Football National Championship Game.

Re: Minneapolis - St. Paul Business News
Wow, that sounds dramatic. The article you linked to says a majority of the 500 jobs will stay here. There haven't been any promises made and the article clearly states, "The company said it “will retain a strong regional presence in Minneapolis” but didn’t specify whether there will be job cu...

Re: Minneapolis - St. Paul Business News
Well, it's official the Twin Cities has lost another Fortune 500 company. This area's image is really taking a beating by losing all these headquarters (including high paying jobs and talent). It seems as though the TC area is losing 1 or 2 major companies annually. Hopefully, state, business, and c...

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)
Did a little bit of digging and this doesn't appear to be a slam dunk yet . Can't find anything recent about it on the Seattle Times website, but I know the search function on the Strib website is terrible and so the Times' might be also. Just throwing that out there before we see "but Seattle...

Re: Convention Center Hotel - (330 South 12th Street)
There are plans to build a 40-story, 1,680-room convention hotel in Seattle. The development will also include nine stories of of affordable housing as well as retail and restaurants. The hotel is expected to open in early 2017. Initial rendering: http://www.djc.com/stories/images/20130923/Hedreen1_...

I see Minneapolis is in the running to host the 2017 NCAA football championship game. This would be huge for the local economy.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
The level of hand-wringing and sky-is-falling-shouting on this forum sometimes astounds me. Just like you, everyone is entitled the their opinion. I think it's a foolish idea to leave the streets open and imo, the decision will affect the success of having a park there. MNdible...I couldn't ...

Re: Shapco Printing Site - (524 Fifth Street North)
Yep, and a nice glass building makes a better gateway than a stinky one story industrial printing building. What's an example of a building you were hoping for? The walker? Oh wait, probably everyone is disappointed because they thought this was going to be the new 100 story skyscraper. Be The Matc...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Being plans no longer call for the closure of Park and Portland, why not just scrap the park plans all together? Having two, small parks (one will be less than an acre and the other about 2.5 acres) and a plaza separated by two busy streets doesn't make any sense and could end up being dangerous. Th...

Re: Shapco Printing Site - (524 Fifth Street North)
What were people expecting here? Bemoaning the lack of retail at ground level is one thing (especially since this is our grand central station, haha), but the design seems fine to me. Tall lobby, lots of glass, some deck space and curving facade further up N Garbage Burner Street. Sometimes less is...

WTF! This project will really help signify that one is entering the urban core of Minneapolis. It WILL be a true gateway type of image for downtown Minneapolis. I can't wait.

Re: ADM to Relocate Global Headquarters - MPLS in the Mix
I just read that ADM executives have visited Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Dallas. They are interested in St. Louis, Indianapolis, Houston and Denver as well. Considering Minneapolis has recently lost out to Denver, Dallas and Atlanta for corporate headquarters, I'm curious as to where we end up...
