Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction / E Line (Uptown to Downtown)

I like Matt's idea a lot. I would dispense with all parking and put in bike facilities. I'd make that tradeoff in a heartbeat. Realize that removing parking means more surface lots and/or structured parking. The latter is preferred, of course, but development we would hope for the current surface lo...

Hey, they got Spoonbridge and Cherry and the Basilica. The Maze Runner wall is a nice touch.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Perhaps. But businesses spearheaded the creation of the Met Council, still one of the most empowered MPOs in the country.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Y'know, we used to have good corporate citizens; companies that did things for the city/region/state even if it cost them a little. 40 years of extreme capitalist rhetoric has destroyed our collective memory of it. Now, "it's just business," and, "this is normal business practice,&quo...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

Why not? When he visited the CAC several years ago he really played to the Safety in the Park people by explaining why a freight reroute was not feasible. While he was probably correct, he was definitely looking out for #1. I don't buy his "concerned lifelong Twin Cities resident" schtick ...

Nope. Nope. Nope. Don't want to be a target for terror and war or support that. nope. I don't think this substantially increases the risk for a terrorist attack. This would be a pretty small office. As for the moral part of the equation...to each their own. I suppose I'd want to hear more about wha...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction / E Line (Uptown to Downtown)

I guess it depends on the definition of "mobility limited." Many such people don't have obvious physical disabilities. I'd like to see data too. More may use the stop off-peak, which I don't have a lot of anecdata about.

It's the sort of thing that makes people hate urbanists.
I thought that was my ravenous hunger for destroying parking.
Well, that too. :)

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)

I understand the benefits of living in the city. That's why I live there. What people hate is when other people are smug about their own perceived superiority based on some situation that is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The implicit message here is that people are somehow poor decisi...

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)

Oh geez, come on people. "Can I get around in a top-15 historic metro blizzard in the entire history of the state of Minnesota?" is not a question people care about when deciding between city and suburb.

It's the sort of thing that makes people hate urbanists.

Re: RE: Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction / E Line (Uptown to Downtown)

If there were ever a subway, there would likely be only one station in between Loring Park and Uptown Transit Center. Stations are expensive. That said, aBRT is not as capital intensive. Things to consider: how should surface transit operate in this section, especially if there are both local and a...

Huh? There would be outrage about any private (and most public) development in any neighborhood park, and rightly so. The analogy doesn't hold at all. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk so you think the tower should never have been built? No, I'm saying the analogy is flawed because: We're talkin...

Oh it's not dead. Its legacy as the shiny thing anti-transit people use as an excuse not to do transit lives on in the form of autonomous vehicles.

The bigger takeaway is that truly autonomous vehicles are quite a bit further away than advocates like to say.

Re: Autonomous vehicles impact on real estate

I do not buy arguments that autonomous vehicles will magically reduce congestion and parking needs. At all. For one, to have that happen we would need perfect driving and parking, which would require pretty much ubiquitous use of autonomous vehicles and I don't see that happening in my lifetime. It ...
