Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
The buses that currently stop at Cedar Grove en route to or from MOA exit Cedar/77 at Diffley, then go north on Nicols to the station. They then do the reverse to get back on the highway (unless they are the 444, 445, etc). I imagine they will keep doing that, since it is the only approach that make...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
The route is not geared for people going downtown! The idea is that it's for suburbian people wanting to go to the Airport and MOA. They do have the option to go downtown via the blue line if they choose but they will be better of taking the express bus downtown to work! IMO it gives much more flex...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
http://m.startribune.com/news/?id=182912841&c=y so how does this work. Catch a city bus, ride it for fifteen minutes to the mall wait longer for a train going the same direction and sit on that for an additional 45 minutes. Yep, that's how it will work. It is exactly as pointless as it sounds, ...

Re: Upscale outlet mall in Eagan
This is how we always shoot ourselves in the foot. Who's "we", exactly? I live within walking distance of where the new mall will be. :) I understand your point about wanting to do things that benefit the region as a whole, but how does this work against that? Even if the downtown Saks ou...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
I had lunch there almost two years ago -- good food, but overpriced for what it was. I thought the place was overrated, IMO. Still, it's never good to see a restaurant close, though Pham seems to be a piece of work.

Re: Upscale outlet mall in Eagan
Ah. No, it's on the other side of Eagan, next to Cedar/77 and just SE of the bridge. I agree that the area you described wouldn't have been a good spot for it.

Re: Upscale outlet mall in Eagan
I wouldn't really characterize that area as "industrial" -- there was retail on that site for almost fifty years from the time when Cedarvale was first built to when it was torn down several years ago. The site also is also right next to a lot of dense housing and some existing retail and ...

Re: Parkside Village Apartments (Apple Valley)
Interesting. I had assumed it would be closer to the roundabout that is just SW of there, which would put it closer to the station. The actual locations of the buildings are a bit less convenient for access to it. And yeah, it's a fairly dense area by local standards; there are parts of Minneapolis ...

Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - General Topics
There's an article in the Strib this morning about a new "upscale" 332-unit apartment complex planned for Apple Valley: http://www.startribune.com/local/south/173053371.html?page=all&prepage=2&c=y&refer=y It's going to be within walking distance of AVTS/the southern terminus of...

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)
Have you even looked into the headquarters of the most successful companies in The US/World? Target/Minneapolis is behind the 8 ball here. Great business happens around the water cooler. creating relationships with your vendors and reps, and making it a space where people feel at ease has become in...

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)
call me old fashion at age 26 but... don't most people just wan't to go to work and do a satisfactory to excellent job and not have to endure all these silly "team building" exercises? IME, a lot of the people there (especially in Target Plaza, which has many of the youth-heavy department...

Re: New Target Building - (1001 Nicollet Mall)
I like how the article referred to it as a "student union". As an ex-Target HQ employee, comparing it to a college certainly isn't much of a stretch.

Re: Upscale outlet mall in Eagan
I'm hoping the strip malls on the bottom could also face Cedar Grove Pkwy and not just the parking lot. Is the strip mall going to be at the same level as Cedar Grove Parkway (which currently is at a higher level than the mall site? Or are they going to be lowering Cedar Grove as part of the regrad...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
I agree that it's more likely that anyone using BRT to get to that area is going to be someone working there. I think most people are going to drive for the reasons already mentioned. Is the idea that most of the traffic entering and leaving the mall is going to be doing so from 13? That would seem ...

I like those. It's the 21st Century; it's past time that our architecture starts looking like it.

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
Having Highway 13 and its ramps bisecting Cedar just north of there does make the access hard. After all, it was the realignment of Cedar decades ago that cut off easy access to that portion of Eagan, which led to its decline. I would guess that the station is located where it is due to a lack of sp...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
I thought at one time I read something about building a platform right on Cedar(basically on the BRT line itself), with a skyway connection to the existing station. But that's pretty pie-in-the-sky, and I can't find any current reference to it either, for that matter. I do think the station will see...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
Are there "regional connections" at Cedar Grove? Does that mean commuters transferring from Apple Valley / Eagan towards DT St. Paul? If so, why not through-route this BRT on West 7th to St. Paul? There currrently isn't bus service directly to St. Paul from Cedar Grove. The only bus servi...

Re: Upscale outlet mall in Eagan
I don't see really dense housing being built near there anytime in the near future. Medium-density housing was part of the plan for the site originally, and one of the reasons it was delayed (and changed) was that there wasn't believed to be sufficient demand. Plus there are already apartment buildi...
