Re: Park Vista (2nd St S & 11th Ave S)

Not exactly news worthy, but it looks like this building is going to be on the agenda for the city planning commission on Aug. 2nd. 3. Park Vista - 110 and 124 12th Ave S and 1102 2nd St S (Discussion) A new 12-story, residential development that includes a total of 169 condominium units and 319 par...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News

They'll be able to see the IDS tower without issue, Lasalle plaza across the street. The skyway will block the state theater and the orpheum, but if you stand in the right spot, you might be able to see the other way down henn. I read a recent proposal that is looking to convert the upper floors of ...

Re: Fiscal Disparities

It's not fair to pigeon hole the entire north/northwest metro as frugal/cheap/drab. Anoka, for example, has 12+ million in city funded projects plus a few other private projects this year alone. $12 million in one year isn't too bad for a city of 17k sitting on a whopping seven square miles.. Anoka ...

Re: Northstar

You should read Anoka's 30 year plan. They have a grand vision to build a "Commuter Rail Village" around their rail station. Two pieces of it are already in the works. The first is a big senior residential area a block away (in construction - you can see it in the g-maps picture below), th...

Re: Northstar

Is this going to be another station where accommodations are not made for a third main? Seems like the investment to bump a track out and have a larger median suitable for a third track in the future could pay off nicely instead of having to redo platforms and possibly pedestrian bridges. If I reca...

Re: Fiscal Disparities

There is not one noteworthy culturally, social or architectural achievement in the entire area.
You could say the same thing about Minneapolis.

Re: Soo Line Building

My hope is they'd bring the original bank lobby back to it's original grandeur: http://www.lileks.com/mpls/firstnatold/5.html But who knows. For those that want more history on the building (the rest of the minneapolis section of his site is pretty awesome and time consuming as well): http://www.lil...

Re: Soo Line Building

I walked through this building via skyway and on the street today while on lunch and the street level doors are closed, and all but the burger joint on the skyway are closed. There was a notice on the windows of the street level about the future plans and a city council meeting about the proposed pr...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations

My dream? Slow Urban Sprawl. LRT's into the suburbs are going to be a waste of money, and more lanes on the interstates and major hwy's are just going to push people further out and create more traffic. Instead spend the money building intra city transit within the downtowns, and improving road corr...
