Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
this is really much ado about nothing. both schiff and goodman are supporting the re-zoning. it passed the planning commission with only 1 no vote. trader joes will be a benefit to minneapolis. they've made concessions to give the store a better street presence. the planning process worked as it sho...

Re: Nicollet Residences
i'll take an omaha style building. they've built a 45 story tower there in the past ten years. we're high fiving over 9 stories in this town. i don't have a problem with the developer doing what they can if that results in something being built on what is now an ugly, vacant parcel on our showcase c...

Re: Surly Brewery Site
It'll be a big disappointment if this isn't built in the city. The core cities are experiencing a renaissance of brewing.

i don't live in the neighborhood but i watched the planning commission vote. the majority of speakers and property/business owners nearby supported trader joe's approval.

Re: 1001 Nicollet - New Target Building
yes it was only a matter of a few floors. target wasn't proposing a 60 story building. so intead of a 40 something tower there is a 30 something tower. that said, he is correct. it was a matter of a small group or residents having the ear of their councilmember. i remember she was very vocal in her ...

Re: Southwest LRT
maybe he's referring to conditons locally. urban rail transit is being built and/or expanded in a cross section of cities not tradtionally seen as centers of progressive urban planning. charlotte, dallas, phoenix to name a few. cincinnati will have a starter streetcar line in place in a couple years...

Re: Target Center Renovation
that building is on a very tight site there isn't a lot of room for "retail spaces". building a brand new arena is a non-starter. especially in light of all the sports stadium drama the past few years. the alternative is to lose all that business to st paul and the city won't let that happ...

Re: Nicollet Mall
nicollet mall needs to become an authentic pedestrian mall to thrive and become a true destination. most european cities did this years ago. the buses don't need to be running on the mall. that's a vestige of the 70's. that thinking has run its course. people will adjust to boarding and dropping off...

yea i wouldn't have a problem with something similar to the linden ave rendering. just please not a knock-off of what Indy has. it's a functional stadium but looks like an enormous shed.

Re: Walker Library
it may have had characater but it was still underground with a leaking roof and had zero street presence. a vestige of the 70-80's. uptown library needs to bring out that corner and provide the neigbhorhood with a fully functional space for all users. it needs to be open to the mall and have windows...

yes that is the plan. the concept renderings show that. i'm sure all effort will be made to connect everything via this linear park. this won't be an island sitting on the east end of downtown like the metrodome does.

Re: Block E Casino
number one: legislature isn't going to expand gambling.
number two: the only hope developer had for a downtown casino was tied to vikings stadium funding. the stadium issue has been resolved without it.
developer needs to focus on other concepts for block e. the casino ship has sailed.

it's a 47.5 million pot of money. i hope this project doesn't lose any momentum. meanwhile portland keeps getting Fed money for more rail while we bicker.
