We should stay focused on what's important here - we won't lose this unit to a sea or ocean tile.Or a frigate...Or worse: a trireme!I was hoping we were ready for a destroyer, but at least it's not a caravel.

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
Despite the lost opportunities in the planning stages, SWLRT would still serve an important purpose in our regional transit system. Unlike the defense department, the Met Council actually has consequences if they royally screw up - namely never getting funding for future projects. There's a graveyar...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
That's what I was wondering, if the county or the CTIB would step in to prevent it all being for nothing. Especially since CTIB is willing to spend 80% of the cost of the Riverview line, so it's not like the 30% portion is a hard line for them. Split the 10% between the county, CTIB, and Met Council...

Is it time to start worrying for the SWLRT?

Re: Minnesota Transportation Funding (General)
How is it not completely obvious that the plan is to manufacture a budget crisis in the near future to force harsh spending cuts? Or is making a big mess so you get more brownie points for cleaning it up considered 'fiscally responsible' these days?

The world isn't, but you do have a choice to post here or not. And posting unsupported negativity followed by ad hominem attacks at anyone who's tired of reading it seems like a waste of time.

Re: Southside - General Topics
I'm sure using 'authentic' as a way to describe cuisine started out well intentioned. But whenever I've heard it used, it's been in a way to disparage the tastes of others and prop up something you like as 'superior.' Because something as varied and personal as what you like to eat has to be a compe...

Re: Bike Shopping
How do people on the forum feel about electrical assist bikes? I rarely see them brought up but as someone who doesn't necessarily feel comfortable in a bike lane or on a sharrow, I like the idea of being able to accelerate quickly when in mixed traffic. I've been eyeing one for a while since we're ...

It won't fix anything now. But it wouldn't have become a rallying cry for less transit investment if it had been built correctly the first time. But that would involve your time machine.

Or at the very least, don't build half of something and expect it to perform at full ridership in order to complete it.

Re: Urban/Suburban Lifestyle
I wonder how much our jobs being spread out have to do with it. There isn't a suburb apartment building that can't point to XYZ company nearby and say "This apartment is for professionals working right over there, so we can charge them more for the convenience."

Re: City living trends and predictions
Why do people feel like kids need an entire field to run around in? At least in Minneapolis, most of the SFH lots are more than enough room to run around in, and there are amazing parks all over.

1,000 weekday riders I don't see that realistically happening ever. Even the unfinished Northstar route attracts 2,500+ weekday riders on average, and we can't get traction for another commuter line unless Northstar is completed and actually performs to expectations. And even then, there are a numb...

There is probably truth to it. But the writer was way too busy with being patronizing to add anything new to the conversation. Again, I'd love to see data on the millennials who are leaving urban centers to see where they end up, not just a blanket label of 'suburbs'. I have a hard time believing th...

Re: City living trends and predictions
I dislike the 'young parents will flee the city for schools' argument, because it flies in the face of the 'young people are vapid and self obsessed' rhetoric these articles usually bank on. Also, I have to laugh at 'no crime' because that's just ridiculous. There is crime wherever people are, just ...
