Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Is it just me, or is the Star Tribune printing more letters that are critical of the Duval proposal. Seems to me that there are still quite a few people out there who are opposed to anything taller than our current tallest. I really do hope that the Duval proposal is chosen for this site, even thoug...

Re: Thresher Square Hotel & Washington/Chicago Apartments

It's usually reasonably priced, though it really depends on what you're looking for. As someone mentioned above, it's sort of a cross between Aldi and Whole Foods--bougie, but pretty cheap. I'd shop there often if it were closer. I'd give it a try if it's convenient. Right now I live near Bryn Mawr...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I would think some radio stations would want to be involved in some way. This being the tallest building you would think there would be some broadcast towers on the top. Wouldn't they have to move the towers from IDS to a new tallest ? Maybe have twin mast's, such as the ones on top of Sears( Willi...

Re: Thresher Square Hotel & Washington/Chicago Apartments

I don't shop at Trader Joe's, is it decently priced ? The Whole Foods seems to get negative reviews due to price. Lunds in NE or Target usually get my business depending on what I'm looking for, and convenience.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Philadelphia had this same weird "can't build height than" respect garbage. It has long been shot down and they have added many tall towers. And their still adding. It's done a lot for the city and brought a lot of revenue to downtown. Minneapolis needs to take lessons and how to build a ...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Maybe. Depends on the reasoning. If it doesn't get selected out of respect for the IDS, I'll be first on the roof.
I certainty hope it doesn't get rejected because of this. IDS is a great building, but it doesn't deserve that kind of respect.

I tried to post a pic of the facade that I saw attached today, but it was too big. It can be seen on the backside of the building.

Re: Andrews Hotel site (4th & Hennepin)

Reminds me too much of the Hampton Inn. Can't we have some variety? The biggest problem is the facade is too flat and looks strange next to the Lumber Exchange. It needs a more three dimensional quality to complement the highly sculptural exterior of its Romanesque neighbor. Can't they use real sto...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

Why would it be a political battle to go higher than IDS ? I love the building, and think it's a great icon in our skyline, but why is it so protected ? It would be great to have a 1000 footer in our skyline if the economics support it. So if they did, would we say no ? The IDS is a building and wil...

Well, I miss Marshall HS. Dearly.
I miss the old high school building as well, but this is a much better use for this location. Just curious seanrichardryan, did you go to Marshall U ?

Re: 2316-2320 Colfax Apartments

This house needs to go. While I feel very passionately about trying to keep as much of our architectural history intact, we can't save absolutely everything. I feel this way because of all the great buildings we have lost in the mindless name of progress. Remember the Metropolitan building ? Sometim...

I walk by this site everyday when I take a walk at lunchtime, and am glad to see this is going up so quickly. Not only does it look great in the last rendering, but it will hide the long ugly skyway as well. The skyway is a great place to watch all the below grade activity going on.

Re: TCF Tower

It would have to be a very slender tower, I would imagine. Maybe a residential building with a better street presence would work here, rather than more office space. More residents in this part of DT would be great.

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)

On my way home I noticed that some piles are stacked on site, and digging has commenced. The sidewalks are also getting the protective scaffolding. I'm getting used to this project and have come around to appreciate what it will do for the area even though I still wish it were taller.

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)

Looks like they have most of the asphalt ripped up as of today, so I suppose the digging will start soon. It's exciting to see this finally getting started. Good riddance to these surface lots.
Will this park have a public art component like Millennium Park in Chicago ?

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

It's just maddening to see how this is all playing out when I read the paper, or see a news story about the surface tracks vs. tunneling debate. I'm aware of all the debate that has gone on in the past as I've been reading urbanmsp, and it's predecessor for a long time, I just don't comment on these...

Not a joke. Check out this map. http://www.thetransportpolitic.com/2009/08/11/southwest-minneapolis-transit-route-selection-process-may-rule-out-light-rail-to-uptown/ If I'm not mistaken, wasn't one of the original proposed routes designed to send the LRT south along Nicollet to the lake street area...
