Re: Duffey 2.0 - 3rd St N

I guess in 50 years we can cut holes in the ramp for windows and make it more housing.

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail

Agreed. Slower, less direct routes might not serve the many thousands of daily commuters, but Mayo patients and Rochester residents might make trips to the Cities regularly and may not want to take a car (sporting events, etc.) Honestly, taking a train for this route would fit us as a family too.

^ Yes, and Stillwater also recently installed a number of automobile scale lighting posts at Lowell Park by the riverfront. They are frequently flooded during high-water times, too.

Re: Midtown Greenway Trail [not the transit thread]

Response to my message urging MnDOT to leverage bridge repair subsidy to bring railroad to negotiating table for Greenway extension received from MnDOT commissioner Margaret Anderson Kelliher. I reverted with a detailed list of reasons why this response is an utter cop-out. *** Thank you for contact...

How about they put their old 200 Central tower at the Convention Center site. Honestly with how Eleven is apparently selling, I hope that the other condo towers can get some traction soon.

I would argue Alatus has hit some bad luck with its neighbors too, though. The snow pile site situation was historically crazy.

Re: O'Gara's Development - 164 Snelling Ave N

I saw what definitely appeared to be construction in the erstwhile O'Gara's retail space on Snelling today. I think the "yum!" ownership group is developing this. Seems like the right time to get going. This densifying area currently has a complete lack of watering holes except Augustine's...

Aren't truckers just using this lot for sleeping, storing, transferring, etc.?

I had a car shipped in from out of state recently and the trucker used this lot for taking delivery. I hope there's more going on, though.

Re: Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)

I wonder if the legal challenge would require posting bond? I really hope the opponents regroup and put their efforts to other areas like inclusionary zoning or other affordability measures instead of dying on this hill.

Re: Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)

^ I could see this, actually. I still think the main reason this was denied (obviously in bad faith) was to draw attention to the real issue of housing costs. Changing the game mid-process was just wrong. Reconsidering if legally possible is actually a bit of a win-win here.

Re: Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)

Alatus hasn't had luck with NIMBY opposition, have they? Here the city leadership really messed up and flagrantly flouted the law to make a grand stand of sorts.

Re: Rochester

Rochester should try to woo a college or larger UMN campus to help its vitality (maybe they did/are trying?). But I think it's mostly just a company town stuck in its old ways and the huge upper-middle class populations and good tax revenues paper over the massive car dependency and sprawl despite a...

Re: 800 Washington Ave - 14 stories - 173' (Guthrie Ramp liner development: Reloaded)

Reduction of underground parking seems like a plus. Far more units as well. The parking ratio must have gone way, way down. Honestly, not a bad outcome even though the previous proposal had more architectural creativity.

Re: Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)

Yep, and they're scheduled to take it up again April 7. In this case I don't think the developer is looking to move on, but the council in my opinion had all the information they needed to rule on this instead of laying it over. It's a site plan review in the end.

Re: Alatus Development - 411-417 Lexington Pkwy (MNDOT Snowpile site)

I am starting to get the feeling the Council is trying to kick this can as long as possible so they don't have to go on the record supporting/opposing (its site plan!). By the time they officially make up their minds the developer and its financing might have moved on. All kinds of problematic stuff...
