Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics
This doesnt make any sense. So bulldoze a city block with possible historic buildings in good use, and another block with great affordable student housing. All this when there is an adjacent large lot with a light rail stop that is parking and a run down hotel, and that will be after all this other ...

Not to mention the name. I would assume it was an ad agency or law firm, not a restaurant.McKinney Roe had the lovely combination of being overpriced with poor service.

Re: Walkability in Greater MN
Detroit Lakes is a town that has really improved. They are in the final stage of completely redoing the main street through town. Washington Ave. And there is a lot more density in the core as well as many new 4-5 story apartment buildings going up in the core. An old 100+ year old department store ...

So, my brother in law is looking at Legacy, and he is always sending me prices of units. There seem to be a ton of units still for sale. Not sure I believe that 85% are sold. Also, the ones facing Eleven seem to be pretty good deals now!

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 35 stories / 393'
Some things I thought of was bowling alley, movie theater, and fitness center. Had never thought of mini storage. That would actually be a great reuse for some of the parking in buildings that don't need as many spaces as they currently have.

Re: North Loop Green - Hines - 350 N 5th St(?) - 35 stories / 393'
I see a lot of complaining about the amount of parking for this project. (not here, but online comments) All of the parking will be below the street grade of 5th, correct? My question is, what else could the developer do with that space that would be a better use than parking? Parking isn't cheap to...

Washington Avenue bridge over 35W is a real POS, if I remember correctly. When is that set to be replaced? Would be nice if they just expanded the bridge on each side of the road to include green space.

Burger King should absolutely be denied. It has been closed for 18 months. As the rules state, this should not be allowed to open as a Burger King again.

So I take it everyone on here agrees that Target should be funding the light rail connecting downtown to Maple Grove, since it benefits their employees? To blame Mayo is laughable. They actually do provide a lot of parking for their employees, and of course they aren't going to charge, it is part of...

Re: 1410 Loring - 1400 Nicollet Ave. (Market BBQ redevelopment)
I may be in the minority, but I really like the 1 story old school building at the corner instead of a 15-20 story building. Would be better with taller mid block buildings.

I don't think that is a huge mistake. I think it is a great idea. This is a short term solution while they get the BRT system up and going. They have limited parking right now. Would you rather they build another ramp downtown? The Kmart site is not ready for any redevelopment right now with many be...

Holiday Inn renovation into the Hotel Indigo in downtown Rochester will include a Crave restaurant on the 2nd level. This will include a large patio space on the corner facing Historic 3rd that will have a retractable roof and retractable walls on the corner. Should do very well there!

Re: Mayo Expansion Proposal - Rochester
When I lived in Rochester, my wife worked at Mayo and I worked for one of the big banks in the cities. I was fortunate enough to be able to work from a Rochester branch most of the time, but would still have to make the commute to the cities very often. I would say it was just as busy going north th...

Re: Mayo Expansion Proposal - Rochester
2 hours would be a deal breaker. Have to be able to make the trip in an hour or less. That is why high speed rail is really the only option. If you can make the drive in half the time, it doesnt make enough sense for enough people. Commuting 4 hours + each day would be a deal breaker.

Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp
It's kind of wild that people who don't understand basic parking economics are in charge of managing economic growth and inflation for our entire economy. Their jobs have absolutely nothing to do with basic parking economics. Why would any team from the Fed waste time away from projects they are as...

Re: West End / Central Park West Development - St. Louis Park
Haven't been there in years, but went a lot the first 5 years it was open. Always parked in the under group portion. And that was part of the appeal of going there. When weather is bad, you park in the heated garage, and when you come out you are no more than 100 feet from the front door of the esta...

Good luck selling units in a building that allows short term rentals. That is a huge red flag for conventional financing, and most lender's, including government backed loans, will not finance these.

Re: Nashville
Just returned from a trip to Nashville after not being there for 5 years. WOW!!!! They have a few stick built apartment complexes going up, but the amount of midrise and high rises going up is absolutely insane for a city this size. The old skyline is completely taken over by the new towers downtown...
