Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
From what I can see on MnDOT's website about the 494 project, nothing will be abutting the Best Buy HQ, so I don't see why the park & ride has to be closed for the freeway expansion. I can see it being closed because they're using the parking lot for construction equipment staging, but it would...

Re: Gold Line BRT (Gateway Corridor)
I mean there's probably something to that... all the players here have a deep history building roads and highways, so it's a predictable target to build roads and bridges even if they're dedicated for buses in the end.

Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)
Still feel like we should try center-running bus lanes for ABRT somewhere, particularly on corridors with lots of on-street parking, curb cuts, and intersections. https://streets.mn/2018/05/08/a-centeri ... in-avenue/We should also use center-running bus lines whenever we can.

C is for Cedar. Extend the C Line from Downtown to MOA via Cedar Ave.Love that there support for transit lanes, but once again MPLS is showing that they don't support transit and not adding lanes to reconstruction proposals.

Re: B Line Lake St Rapid Bus, Midtown Rail Transit
The only studies I ever saw included a single-track stub terminal sandwiched up against the offramp from southbound Hiawatha to Lake Street, which precludes any sort of expansion or interlining (similar to the problem with the plans produced for West Lake). Long ago, I had produced a map likely link...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
No, but related to Norfolk Southern, I've always wondered if they would ever seek a mainline spur to connect with the Twin Cities market, similar to how Canadian National has access to the metro via the old SOO > Wisconsin Central line across the Arcola High Bridge. NS has direct or trackage right a...

Seems SWLRT and Bottineau have messed with our perception of what good rail transit is and how much it should reasonably cost.

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
Yep what a mess. Maybe they should go back to looking at the CP Ford Spur alignment if it means actual dedicated ROW with 2-3 car trains and better speed. Have Randolph-West 7th become ABRT, with a transfer to/from LRT at Randolph/West 7th where the Ford Spur is adjacent. Then have it come up the hi...

Random question, why are we planning to have 4 OMFs when we get to 2 actual lines/services? Because the Franklin Ave and Lowertown OMFs are not expandable? Feels like an inefficient end result.

While it's a dense neighborhood, it's not (yet) a large population to support a grocer. And it's an island of a neighborhood, walled off by the river, the airport, and MOA/77.

The last docs show a significantly modified MN-5 bridge, right? Additional columns, like the Green Line added to the Washington Ave bridge, plus a second deck above. But not a new bridge.

Yes, but the underground space is a giant loading dock for armored trucks, not just passenger vehicle parking.

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
I've said it before, but the easiest way to get rail service from MSP to Rochester is via Owatonna. This would increase travel time (driving St. Paul to Rochester is 1:15, but going via Owatonna bumps it to 1:50) but Owatonna, Faribault, and Northfield may be slight trip generators. Lots of options ...

Re: MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
That's a little extreme. This feels like another manifestation of a problem I see everywhere, that cities, chambers, and boosters are all about getting and supporting any funding request no matter how valid or useful.
