Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
Councilmember Gordon posted on his blog his rationale for voting against this in committee: http://secondward.blogspot.com/2013/07/my-vote-on-opus-development.html I think his position is reasonable. This vote doesn't preclude the Opus development at a later date, provided the SAP is designed to sup...

Re: Target Center Renovation
The Detroit metro area is very segregated as are we here in the Twin Cities. I believe we basically jockey back and forth for #1 and #2. Waaaaaay off the Target Center topic, but the Twin Cities is not nearly as segregated as Detroit. In this study based on 2010 Census data (http://www.s4.brown.edu...

This stings a bit...the Podium is hanging up its cleats after a 54 year run.

It is amusing that two of the properties that border this showpiece park are a jail and a juvenile detention center.

Re: 815 14th Ave SE
I'm with min-chi-cbus on the good use of the lot. As for its location, it couldn't be closer to Van Cleve Park, just across the railroad tracks over the pedestrian bridge on 14th. It is just a several block walk to Dinkytown, and even closer than that is the little commercial corner at Como and 15th.

Highlight Center (Old MPS Headquarters) - 807 Broadway St NE
The Star Tribune reported today that 7 proposals came in for redevelopment of the old Minneapolis Public Schools Headquarters in NE Minneapolis. There are 3 strictly commercial proposals, and 4 mixed-use proposals, with condos included in one of those. The list: MIXED USE: Domain Architecture and De...

The balconies overlooking the freeway also have the downtown views. They may be the units that are most in demand.

The renderings in the Strib all come from the plan located here: http://metrisarts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/plan-it_comprehensive-report.pdf Other related docs are found at that website (http://metrisarts.com/recent/#Hennepin). The strange palm tree rendering threw me off too, though it is sup...

Re: House of Hanson Site (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE)
I'm not sure who you are debating, mattaudio, as I don't see any advocacy here for prohibiting the House of Hanson owners to sell their building and land, and to stop new owners from building upon that land. I certainly wasn't arguing that. The critiques of the Opus development that I have read are ...

Re: House of Hanson Site (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE)
That sounds like a recipe for a crappy looking, really disjointed neighborhood. Your crappy looking, really disjointed neighborhood may be my ideal dense city neighborhood. One with a diversity of buildings, some old, some new, some short, some taller, some beautiful, some even ugly. A diversity of...

Re: House of Hanson Site (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE)
On another note, I think it's kinda funny/sad that, in everything I've read about this development, every piece has mentioned that the Book House and the Podium would be displaced, a few have mentioned that the hair salon would be displaced, and not a one has mentioned poor Duffy's Pizza. Perhaps t...

Re: Currie Park Lofts Phase I
Building around it would have given the streetscape more diversity in building sizes and ages, which I would prefer to the block-long building they are ready to build. I am glad they were at least forced to save it, and that it will be staying in the neighborhood.

Re: Dinkytown
The House of Hanson owners also own the three parcels of parking lot behind the building. These parcels form the majority of the Dinkytown parking lot used by many if not most of the businesses in the area. It seems likely that any sale of the building would include these parcels, as the building it...

Re: Dinkytown
I would mainly hate to see the loss of the Podium and the Book House. I can't remember a Dinkytown without them there. It seems unlikely that these two businesses would be in the mix of any new retail placed in that spot.
