Part of the issue I'm guessing is that the Green Line runs 24/7. And I have seen them do bus bridges just for the overnight Green Line before. How come this work can not be done during the night? That would cause less disruption.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Why would we place an east bike lane 1,300 ft. away from the west bound lane? Although if you think a 8-10ft. buffer space that will never have an functional usage is a positive thing then I guess you just won't get it. Being able to bike 8-10 feet away from speeding cars makes me feel more safe ri...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Also, simply dividing number of passengers by number of miles to come up with a passenger/mile figure may be mathematically solid, but it doesn't take into account the length of passengers' trips. If the 5 has high ridership because it's cobbling together a lot of short rides along its whole length...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
But also good god the 5 should have skipped right past aBRT and gone straight to LRT. I'd be curious to find the ridership/mile along these bus routes since it would give a better idea of where we *should* (not that we will in the foreseeable future) upgrade to LRT. That would be good. Ridership fo...

Surdyk's opened for business today , in spite of the ban not being lifted until July. About 1 p.m. Grant Wilson, a Minneapolis licensing inspector, showed up at Surdyk’s, where the parking lot was full of cars, and advised Jim Surdyk to “lock the doors.” If he did not comply with the advice, Wilson ...

Re: Indianapolis
Indianapolis city council approves a .25 cent income tax to support a major expansion of transit in the area. Right now, the system is composed of many low-frequency routes with poor span of service. The tax will expand bus routes and construct 3 BRT lines. http://www.indystar.com/story/news/local/m...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
This has bothered me for sometime, but the so-called temporary detour of route 68 on Jackson Street in St. Paul is still ongoing. I didn't get a clear response on why the detour was in effect when I asked an operator last year and an wondering when it will stop. If you email Metro Transit , they sh...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
One last thing that I would like to see is fare capping in lieu of passes. This would give lower-income people the benefits of passes without requiring the larger upfront purchase cost of the pass. Also it would simplify product provision significantly, as there would only be the bus fare listed, n...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
It's distressing, but at least they're doing what they need to do to weather the budget storm and ensure they can run all their service (given the current operator shortage).Distressing to see so many "service reduced" changes.
Except on Route 16. Time to dump that entirely.
