Re: Transit Crime

My son commutes to the U from Hopkins and transfers at Uptown. His review: “this sucks now because all the people I most want to avoid are now standing around outside with me trying to talk at me and I have nowhere to avoid them”.

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

My memory of the elevated bike bridge was that Minneapolis Parks vetoed it because there would be elevated views into the back yards. It was only needed for the stretch between Lake St and Burnham Re. Otherwise there was enough space.

Re: Hopkins - General Topics

I can’t imagine demolition. I seemed to recall it is on a historic registry and that was a major factor in the design of the extra long LRT bridge over Excelsior Blvd requiring the bridge to touch down where it does so construction would not impact the historic building. I admit, I once would walk o...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT

On a side note...is this area an old River bed or something from thousands of years ago? I recall from an old university course on the geography of the Twin Cities that this area has the geology of an old glacial runoff area. Filled with a soil that makes building on it difficult because of the sof...

The proposed elevating the trail over the LRT was between $50-100M. Bike tunnel though… can’t think it would need to be as deep but strengthening to support the weight above…

The Rosalyn station of the DC metro is a little more than 100 feet deep.

I remember it being one long 3 minute single escalator ride. It also has banks of elevators to get you down in less than 20 seconds.

I’m sure it will be helpful to be able to explain why the storm water can be tunneled, like is currently being reconstructed, but a train carrying tunnel takes different geologic concerns.
