Re: Rice Creek Commons (TCAAP site) - Arden Hills

People are nuts. Some people feel entitled to a quaint little town a stone throw's away from a burgeoning metropolis....and they want it for cheap. And I want a golden goose! Additional development in another part of their city needn't even mean a change to their quaint little street . (Especially ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

"Not good" at 2am on Friday and Saturday nights as everyone is forced to leave at once. Yes, I find when I've got to leave with others at the same time I get a penchant for shooting. Was it possibly a reference to the seemingly random street closures on a network of one-ways near a freewa...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News

there is apparently concern about Nicollet Mall becoming a nightclub district. Yes, it would be terrible to have nightlife on what's supposed to be our major retail street, thus protecting all our thriving retail from there being people about... And will it be "family"-friendly -- i.e., g...

Re: Theater Garage Marquee Apartments - (Franklin & Lyndale)

One of my friends was in Steeple People the other day and the guy at the register told him they have to be out by January 1. They're looking for locations nearby with an eye on Nicollet. I wonder whether a space in the building formerly home to Defiant Tattoo (Lyndale and Ridgewood) would work for ...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood

Most of those streets only existed notionally; they might have been dirt paths or nothing at all. But platting them in advance kept them from being built upon. Some of these "ghost streets" (i.e. legally reserved as public thoroughfares via the platting process, but never built out) exist...

Cedar and Cliff is AM 980 (Salem Communications' Christian-formatted talk station, KKMS). Have to think about anything further southeastward -- about to dash from work here.

I'm pretty sure it's still art even when it's a fetishistic imposition.
There's a place over by 27th and Hennepin whose owners and employees probably agree with you. (And likely think coffee is an art form, also too).

Can't speak to the donuts, but the (blended) frozen cappuccino is highly Bear-Approved. (I'd visited a Timmie's with my sister while she briefly lived in Canada -- and sometime after she returned, we took a road trip to Thunder Bay with that as our principal objective. :D )

Luxurious finishes and amenities throughout, they are geared toward those that recognize coffee is an art form, the importance of never wasting a summer day, and that live-work-play is more than just a catchphrase. Hopefully the construction crews' abilities in regard to "parallel structure&qu...

People around here make fun of some of the most common justifications for Euclidean zoning--the proverbial "what if someone wanted to build a coal-burning factory/feed lot/nuclear waste dump next to my house???" kind--because you probably don't need zoning to keep that scenario from takin...

A "Northern Irish" bar? Does that mean you have to sit on one side of the bar if you feel you live in "the Twin Cities", and the other side if you feel you live in "Saint Paul"?

I understand what you're getting at, but as a condo owner at 19xx Aldrich, I'm thinking of the greater good of our neighborhood As another owner on the same block, I strongly second this. The attitude that "new properties can only harm mine, not help it" implies a zero-sum view of economi...

Re: South Nicollet (Lyndale & Kingfield & Tangletown & Windom)

I used to live in a somewhat more parking-constrained area (36th and Garfield) and I parked on the street. It didn't bother me if I had to park a little ways away sometimes (usually for snow emergencies) but I definitely heard the complaints from neighbors and visitors about having to park "al...

Even speaking as someone past the Uptown age (34) and a homeowner (albeit of a small condo in the Wedge), I still feel that a "party vibe" needs somewhere to exist. Often in the Twin Cities, the general tenor of discussions on neighborhood composition feels a bit like the biblical story ab...

Gay bar scene <-------> Sports bar scene. I honestly didn't know there was that much overlap. Yeah, I can't imagine gay guys having any interest in muscular men in tight outfits. Joking aside, the Twin Cities LGBT community actually has a pretty sizable participatory sports scene as well. And the green line ghetto rolls on. Well, the steady, middle-class vocation-style and manufacturing jobs have all been offshored (because it was just so Mean and Unfair of us to assess taxes to support the infrastructure that makes a profitable, industrialized society possible in the first place). ...
