Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

While I'm on the subject, its *very* frustrating that the Hiawatha lrt trail isn't nowhere near as nice as it could be especially south of the Sabo bridge. Huge commuting potential, especially with the downtown connection done (although having to use the goat path is getting old). North of Sabo a li...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

Good god, forgive me, I just can't help it... Building a tunnel through here is fuckin' assinine. How long do we expect this transit investment to last? I'm as frustrated with the slow pace of our transit buildout as anyone, but we should build this right, even though it will kick out the timeline....

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

^ I'm curious why Mclaughlin feels that Minnehaha isn't the place for a cycletrack? Not enough traffic (both bicycle and auto) and/or not enough businesses on Minnehaha. If no cycletrack on Minnehaha it would be nice to have the lrt trail paved over the bumpy sidewalk style we have now. Plus the tra...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

If the end result is that we get a SWLRT through the trail (somehow), a Midtown corridor bus or streetcar (on LRT gauge) and an improvement to Hennepin and/or Lyndale transit (dedicated lane) AND Nicollet streetcar/BRT... fine. To say Uptown area is heavily served ignores that it is more heavily po...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

I will say, it would be pretty silly if we were running light rail at-grade in downtown, through the University, at Snelling and in DT St. Paul but running it through a tunnel on a stretch of dedicated rail ROW out in a relatively low-density residential district. I think the U's former VP, Kathy O...

Re: Empire Builder

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but I've had good luck finding rides on craigslist. I'm sure someone is going from Mpls. to Madison that could use help with gas.

Re: U of M Bike Trail

Looking at the old raised RR bed at west end of the bridge, which I assume will become the proposed bluff street trail (that's what the tunnel in the 35w bridge is for) I wonder how they are going to integrate the 2 trails- a little bridge?

Re: U of M Bike Trail

Its a good way to get downtown but pointless for connecting to west bank since you have to down 19th ave which has construction right now, take west river parkway and up a huge hill or up the stairs by the anderson library. I don't get why the U can't put alittle ramp on those stairs. There's a bike...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Minnehaha- thankfully the county is postponing the process. Claiming that 50 trees and 50 parking spots will lost if a 2-way cycletrack is implicated is ridiculous. 1st- its great for pedicabs (one of them) but that's about it. And it only works if the (Grrrrr) taxis don't park there. Whoever design...

Re: West Bank

It's pretty cool that they are proposing a bikeway in the trench along side the LRT that connects to the current bridge across 35... or has there always been one? I don't bike in that area often...
No, just sprucing up the "goat path". Yawn.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

My apologizes- I didn't get into the document before because I assumed it was focused on St. Louis Park (which I care about but Mpls effects me more ;-) ) Just read the whole thing. Wow, this line looks complicated and increasingly expensive more and more. I see what you guys are talking about and I...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

If co-location happens—and I suspect it will—my vote would be for the LRT in a shallow tunnel. Elevating the trail would just be odd and the deep tunnel seems excessive. But I am no expert :)
So, would the trail or the freight line go over the tunnel? For some reason that seems awkward either way.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

More I read into this line the more I fear the bike trail (burham/kenilworth) is in trouble. It's the cheapest option for freight relocation and unfortunately that is the usual deciding factor. Hope the "all powerful" bike lobby (although this isn't NYC  ) puts their weight behind th...

Re: Nice Ride Minnesota

Citi Bike sure has been spurring a lot of debate about Bike Sharing... Here's something else for the map nerds amongst us: http://bikes.oobrien.com/global.php You can zoom into cities and watch time lapse animations of station usage. Very cool. Surprised how big Montreal's system is. Add nobody on ...

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

Seattle is in the same boat (although they are now much more gung-ho about rail than we are). Sorry I've VERY late to the party here (just found this site website yesterday-shame on me). Just had to comment here because I lived in Seattle for 4+ yrs and was there when they opened their first LRT li...
