Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

Lol whut? Most of NE is a ghost town outside of special events like Art-a-whirl.

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth (500k, etc)

I've always been surprised that some of the smaller communities like St Anthony and Laurderdale were never annexed into Minneapolis or St Paul.

Re: Mortenson / USBank project - 333 Hennepin Ave E

Props to the street level and podium design! The tower...well the design, like others have said, has huge potential, but isn't there yet. Sure narrower and taller would help, but I really think there's too many big horizontal elements. The large box cutouts and the top hat it's wearing. It's like we...

Re: Steelcase (506 4th St N)

I've seen more attractive pole barns. Was there a deal going on with brown corrugated sheet and they figured they should build something with it?

Re: 100 Hennepin Avenue S

The townhomes are my favorite part about this project. I'd love to see more of that scale of development scattered throughout the city where it makes sense. That stretch of 1st is also relatively quiet in my experience. There might be some weekend nightlife noise, but most of this area is people hea...

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)

The dark pre-cast isn't that terrible really. Sure stone would be better, but at least it's not the standard beige pre-cast everything has gotten lately like on The Nic.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

While that's true, essentially what Duval is doing is throwing the cheapest shortest tall building he could build at Minnesota and hoping that just the height will be enough to wow the fly over country. There's no curves, no facets, no angles, no arches. Seattle would still have a building taller a...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

I think it's important to keep in mind that all of these proposals are fairly preliminary and whichever one is selected would go through some refinements. Doesn't necessarily mean drastic changes, but some I'm sure.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block

From very close look of the high res drawing of Duval it looks like it may come to a very sharp point on Washington. Almost triangular like the Flatiron, except the side on Hennepin might have a curved face... I noticed that too - theres definitely some curvature happening when you look at the line...

Re: Alatus St. Anthony Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site)

Then it sound like it maybe more retro looking to blend in with the historic nature of the area. Hopefully this mean more brick and stone vs cement board and ill fitting metal panels. I don't think it necessarily means it's going to be retro. Sounds like they're just going with the same architectur...

I'm no traffic engineer, but would something like this work? https://i.imgur.com/H9Z4XXT.jpg Whether or not this works, it's a really cool solution. I could see development hugging the "onramps" and a cool public park/plaza in the center. Really reminds me of a more elegant version of Gra...

All for something happening on this site, but if it's going to be another boring shamrock box, can it at least have a setback? How bland can we get? If you're going to alter and create your own images, make sure you are very explicit you have done so, some of us are using smart phones and haven't h...

I added a few floors set back and a crown on the taller building.

Re: Third North - (800 Third Street North)

The thing that bothers me about this project is that the faces of this building don't match. Maybe it would have made the building more bland, but I think it would have helped create the illusion of 3 tightly connected buildings (instead of one mega structure) if the red/orange panels continued arou...

Re: Nicollet Mall

I only have the PDF to go off from the design presentation, but I'd agree with other posters that James Corner's team has the best proposal on the table. The Daoust team didn't push themselves enough imo. Their proposal would probably be the easiest to execute, but does little to push what can be do...

Re: Stone Arch 2 - (520 2nd Street Southeast)

Looks like they gave up on some of the design details, such as the alternating window placement from the rendering. Bit of a bummer as that added a bulk of character to this rather minimalistic building.

Re: Rampton Apartments - (201 2nd Avenue Southeast)

I get the excitement TWA, but I'd hope that in the future Minneapolis could demolish these mega ramps for multi/higher use projects that may or may not incorporate parking into them. Now if you're just speaking to creative re-use of existing structures....totally, all for that! :)

This is the product ("Mediamesh") that is being installed on the front of the stadium atop the triangular spire.

Cool stuff, too bad they aren't covering the entire face of the spire in it.
