Re: Southside - General Topics
Oh no! I loved Anodyne. It had a really cool vibe. At least we get Bull Run as a consolation, and Five Watt up on 38th is a great new space. Speaking of which, a restaurant with full liquor license is going in on the northeast corner of 38th & Nicollet.

Chicago is also quite large at 234 sq miles. But it's obvious that Chicago "feels" much bigger as it has such wide expanses of density.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Thanks, but I think I'll still just take Bryant to Lake. It's a straight shot instead of going up a steep dirt hill, half a block north, through a parking lot, then back down. But I do appreciate the shortcut. I mostly ride Blaisdell from 28th to 40th and I think that stretch is great. The few times...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Yeah, I did exactly that yesterday. Going east on the Greenway, wanted to get to Uptown Pizza. You have to get off on Bryant and take Lake for 5 blocks, including through the light at Lyndale. Otherwise you could go to Nicollet and take Blaisdell to Lake and it's only 3 blocks on Lake, but then you'...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
As there seem to be a lot of cyclists on this forum. Quick question. Do you follow the rules of the road? Nothing annoys me more than when cyclists think they own the road and dont obey any traffic law or general courtesy on the road. (going thru red lights. At a red light, passing all the cars tha...

Re: Orange Line (35W BRT) & Lake St Transit Access Project
Forgive me if it's been talked about before (which I'm sure it has, but a cursory glance through the thread didn't reveal it), but why are there stops at both 76th st and American Blvd?

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
So far we've established that this train was expensive, that unless public agencies can get everything working perfectly on the first day they're incompetent, and ... that black people are scary? Can we go back to being a progressive and realistic place, or is this the state of discourse here? No k...

That is really interesting, but why is the water layer on top of the streetcar layer?

Re: Uptown Restaurant News
The dive places that exist have figured out their niche and once you've survived 40 years you should be able to keep trucking. But I can't think of a single dive bar that has opened in the past 10 years, so of course they won't be constantly closing if they never open up in the first place. I'm gues...

If you spend your money in different ways than WHS spends his money, you are a detestable person. Which includes me apparently, because I like craft cocktails. What is detestable about the demographic who go to "trendy" restaurants?

Re: Uptown Restaurant News
I almost hope this fails hard, out of pure vindictiveness. 12 dollar cocktails and 15 dollar "small plates"? Give me a break. Rye wasn't the greatest, but it was nice having a place I could walk to and also afford. >$10 is pretty standard for a quality cocktail in this town (or any town, ...

I, for one, want to hear more people berate bapster for the way he cooks and cleans. I'm with Fishmanpet in that he should just give away all his tools that he doesn't use like I would.

Re: Five15 On the Park - (1515 5th Street South)
I don't know anything about affordable housing (shame on me) so I'm just trying to learn here. Wouldn't it potentially be a problem for very poor people to put affordable housing in an affluent neighborhood? If they are restricted to 50% of the area's median income, then if you put an affordable apa...

I would think that would be a large part of it. The other tracts that students are a large portion of hover around the $16-17k mark. But it's the closest income data that I could find.

The median household income in that census tract was $13,511 as of the latest census data. That is the second lowest of any census tract in the state.

Agreed. That map is awesome.
The Minnehaha-7th-Hope line is wonky. I assume it was just a way to get to the airport from either city, but just interesting we had a line from Theo Wirth Park to the East Side of St. Paul via Minnehaha Ave and West 7th St.

Re: Mowers: manual reel push vs. gas-powered vs. electric
I have a reel mower. I just got a cheap one at Menards. I'm positive there are better ones out there, but mine works just fine. I have a tiny yard, and mow maybe once a week. I would (personally) never consider getting a gas mower for such a small yard.
