Re: Green Line (Central)

I saw a picture of it somewhere online. It has a nice large clock above the doors, and windows facing Wall St.

Re: Nicollet-Central Corridor

Seems like MT should go ahead with aBRT lines in these corridors as well, streetcar line is too short for a lot of the trips taken on the Central Ave bus, and a good amount of the Nicollet bus. As for Nicollet Garage, it isn't too bad. Urban bus garages are always difficult though. Perhaps someday t...

Re: Northstar

Metra, Caltrain, and pretty much all the East Coast commuter trains are legacy systems that have existed for as long as 170 years. Many commuter towns and suburbs were developed on these lines. As much as I dislike the idea of park and rides, there is no way Northstar would get ridership without the...

Probably cause they're trying to look trendy, and they're being cheap because they're building apartments.

Re: Midtown Corridor

Lake Street is incredibly busy during peak hours. Just yesterday, all the 21's and 53's were travelling in groups of 2 or 3, and all of them were full. Additionally, we have half of a trench just sitting there for rail transit. If you want to take a lane away from Lake St, then you will need to add ...

Re: Midtown Corridor

As much as I would rather see a double track LRT line in the trench, the streetcar proposal is an acceptable compromise. Traffic on Lake St is simply too busy to see any real improvements in speed. Also, with the exception of the 5th Ave station and maybe the Bloomington station, the streets feel pe...

Re: Midtown Corridor

I think the idea is a streetcar line from between West Lake and Hiawatha, and an arterial BRT line from Hiawatha to Snelling.

Looks like Metro Transit will be advancing the Lake St Arterial BRT and the Midtown Greenway single/double track alternatives.

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

There are poor people all over the metro. Certainly there is a concentration of poor people in the inner cities, however, regional policies have created (for better or for worse) public and section 8 housing in relatively transit-poor, unwalkable areas. Additionally suburban rentals are likely cheap...

Renting v.s. Owning

In general, I have noticed that urbanists promote that we (i.e. society as a whole) have a larger share of people who rent rather than own their place of residence. Frankly, I think it is a rather backwards idea, but admittedly I don't know too much about the issue. Could someone shed light on why t...

Interstate 35W

A study should be finishing up soon that will examine the feasibility of the addition of HOT lanes to 35W north of downtown and a Highway BRT system similar to the Orange line. There are 4 phases to the HOT lanes: 1: Hwy 36 to Hwy 10 2: Hwy 10 to Lexington Ave 3: University Ave to Hwy 36 4: Direct c...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)

MnDot held a meeting about the proposed HOT lanes on Hwy 77 and improved access to the Cedar Grove Transit Center last night. The study will wrap up in 2014, when they will then seek funding for the project. 6 options were considered for access to the transit center. Some featured a SB platform on t...

Re: Street, Road, and Highway Projects

Scott County has moved their sights onto a new freeway from 169 in Shakopee down to the county line. Like we need another 30 miles of exurbs with no job centers in a 30 minute drive. As for the Hwy. 13 freeway proposal, it's actually a decent idea because the land is mainly industrial, truck ...

Re: Street, Road, and Highway Projects

Speaking of the area, MnDot recently held a meeting discussing opportunities for Hwy 13 between 169 and 35W. The options ranged from reducing the number of lights and improving intersections to the conversion of 13 to a freeway with interchanges at Dakota, Chowen, and CR 5. No mention of improving t...
