Re: Vikings Stadium

The point is even the RENDERINGS look horrible. Sure every project starts with a rough sketch, but then some actual work is done to design the building. It looks like no thought was put into this, just a few random angles and giant blank walls. No attention to detail. Just a gimmicky giant bunker wi...

Re: Super Talls

Not really, because most if not all of the buildings taller than 500 feet here were built for large companies, and even if they weren't F500 they were at least a large business nationally. Even with expansion from a company like Target, the scale of expansion might be just a high-rise depending on ...

Re: Vikings Stadium

HAHAHAHAHA just as I thought, a 5 year old designed the stadium by drawing some random lines on a napkin! Those giant blank walls and random angles would be great...if you're trying to design a bunker in the USSR. Why do we feel the need to pretend to be unique and progressive with this novelty gimm...

Re: Upper Mississippi -- No Locks For You

Removal? What makes you say that? Aren't they just talking about ceasing operation? Well, that's probably true, at least in the short term. Longer term, they'll require repair and maintenance, and I'd expect that they will actually be removed instead of repairing expensive locks that aren't used. I...

Re: Nicollet Mall

I'll ask it again, and excuse me if this makes me a total n00b, but what is the extra cost of a relatively shallow C&C tunnel under the Mall if we're already tearing it apart? How much longer would each block be closed/affected compared to just a street re-do? Can tunnels carry buses for now an...

Re: Downtown Office Market

I just don't see where the demand would come from for a new supertall. 1+ million square feet already proposed by the Vikings stadium and Target keeps moving thousands to the suburbs along with a large number of companies already being on 394 and 494. I don't really see many of them moving dtown if ...

Re: StoneBridge (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)

To be honest, this building doesn't really make a "wall" on Gold Medal Park at all. There are at least 50 feet (if not more) of Izzy's and various driveways between this and the park. I was watching the state fair fireworks from the top of the hill in Gold Medal Park last night and it did...

Re: 4Marq - (400 Marquette Avenue)

A co-worker who has a parking contract in the underground garage here said they can't park there anymore starting August 1st. Maybe work will start in August?
People were still parking there during the day as of last week.
They pushed it back to the 22nd, but said it could be delayed again.

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

I'm on jury duty this week (yay) so walked around DT today at lunch; I don't know how much higher this one is going to get but right now it's kind of disappointing how little impact it has. Of course, with Nicollet Mall all blocked off and all the construction debris around it's a little hard to ge...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News

My thoughts are San Fransisco doesn't have suburbs on 3 sides with water so the retail has to be in the city. Sure there is retail across the bridges and to the south, but since it is so dense, retail easily thrives. MSP on the other hand kind of turned into a crap hole after WWII and everyone moved...

Re: Minneapolis Energy Muncipalization

As someone who doesn't know all that much about specifics with regard to something like this, but would like to know more, I have a couple of questions. Would going through with municipalization require the city to purchase Xcel's infrastructure from them? If so, what would the cost be, and how wou...

Re: Mystery Washington Avenue Tower - (301 Washington Avenue

This is great for this area of Washington. This parking lot was such an ugly empty hole. I don't care that it isn't 20 stories, its still a huge improvement. The more infill the better, then possibly we'll see taller buildings if the demand keeps up and there's no place to go but up!

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)

I know 222 had pretty mixed reviews coming into construction. Now that the building is close to completion, have any of you changed your mind on the project?

I don't hate it like some, I think it will look better once the tower is done, which it looked like they started today.

This new sub will be feeding another new sub at Oakland and the greenway via underground transmission to meet future demand.
