Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Congresswoman Cori Bush of Missouri just introduced two bills surrounding increasing funding for Light Rail Transit and Bus Rapid Transit for the entire country. The Light Rail Transit Act - https://twitter.com/RepCori/status/1605699133708197889?s=20&t=kgdYBnEaxp1MX9kN30vGRQ The Bus Rapid Trans...

The Rise Modular site has broken ground. There was a construction fence up and dirt moved when I biked by this past weekend. They broke ground on it two months ago. They put in a ton of pilings, then they let them sit for a month or so. As of a few days ago they were still then excavating out aroun...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Yeah, sorry, it's not all the skyways...and some other cities have their versions of them and do just fine. But if it was all the fault of the skyway, we would have a thriving active retail (whatever form that may take) scene on the 2nd level...we don't have that either. To be clear, my comments ab...

Also, plans for the amphitheater , which looks... much less interesting than anything we've seen so far. Seems awfully generic, cut-and-paste. Be nice if they at least threw in some unique art or sculpture or something to give the venue a sense of character. Maybe extend the First Ave brand to here.

It's retail the margin's aren't great and COVID and work-from-home probably gave them a big hit and they probably didn't see a rosy picture in the near-term.

Given that much of the D Line is already high frequency, they must already have some drivers? The decision sounds like the correct one however.
I rode past the new garage on 7th. It looks 100% done, does anyone know when they will start using it? It looks like a neat and unique building.

Ultimately the CPC voted 5-4 (with the four I quoted above in opposition) on a motion made by Commissioner Rainville to continue this project one cycle to November 14th in order to ensure that the Marcy Holmes neighborhood (which had not submitted a letter) was consulted. On Twitter, the Marcy Holm...

Some developers want to redevelop the old Sears store near the State Capitol...into a reality entertainment complex. https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/new-development-plan-in-the-works-for-st-pauls-sears-site/ This seems like a dream, does anyone know if they have experience in doing this stuff?

This area from North Loop Green, to Gateway 5th St and Washington has seen an impressive amount of investment recently. It makes me wonder if large projects like Gateway and North Loop Green instill confidence in an area and attract additional development. Might be the highest dollar value for a sma...

Oh... is that why the police are clearing unhoused folks? https://twitter.com/rerahrich/status/1578108627507781632 It has nothing to do with it. Also stop whining about things being locked up. It comes from a standpoint of privilege. If you've lived in areas that are underprivileged or even working class it's normal and you get used to it. I am thankful for the W. Broadway Walgreens, that it's there and open. I don't care if a ton of the pr...

Not sure this is the right move - it's going to make floor workers' jobs a nightmare and makes shopping there a second-rate experience. But I can't say I'm totally surprised they're doing it. Many, many years ago, I worked here (mainly cashier, sometimes salesfloor). I remember hearing that revenue...

I emphasized the need for housing and for the new space to make the area feel more like a neighborhood rather than a commercial corridor. Density with quality greenspace.

Re: Open Streets Minneapolis
My read of the piece is it costs $500k each year to put on 8 quality events. Would be great to add back downtown, NE and (especially) Nicollet and a second fall Lyndale event, but that's probably another $500k for additional Open Streets staff required etc. That cost can't be correct or is wishful ...

I think it's great for people to get to Aldi and Cub where it's very time consuming to transfer to make a trip that's only a mile or two. Helpful for those who are older or limited mobility to get from their door to the bus stop as well. With the C Line, D Line, and Blue Line as well as the stop cu...

My next bike is going to be a SingleSpeed...no worries about batteries! On another note. I guess the Midtown Greenway repaving is coming up and will be between Dean Parkway and 5th Ave if my memory is correct. Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Underground streetlights are commonly 240 or 480 volts, but if there's a neutral wire available you can get 240 from the 480 volt circuits, which is within the range of standard "world voltage" (100-240) switching power supplies like a bicycle or scooter charger. Or 120 volts if it's a 24...
