Re: South Nicollet (Lyndale & Kingfield & Tangletown & Windom)
Why would they need a parking variance? Weren't parking requirements eliminated near high frequency transit? The developer brought that up and said they could move forward without one. I couldn't tell whether the City was encouraging them to seek the variance, or if the developer decided on its own...

Re: South Nicollet (Lyndale & Kingfield & Tangletown & Windom)
Weren't those two live/work townhomes? Wasn't live/work, especially facing Nicollet (let's face it, the rest of the "live worK" interior is really garages) the reason why this proposal was chosen over one that would have housed significantly more people on the parcel? https://streets.mn/2...

Re: South Nicollet (Lyndale & Kingfield & Tangletown & Windom)
Regarding the proposed development at 3329 Nicollet, there's a public meeting in Lyndale on May 22. The developer is seeking setback variances. I'll be attending and hopefully they will have more renderings. The developer has updated their proposal. They are replacing 2 town homes (the ones frontin...

Re: Franklin Avenue
Posted this here for the sake of not duplicating threads. What are folks thoughts on the MnDOT detour of all freeway access traffic from Hennepin/Lyndale down Franklin at the moment? When I first saw they were going to do this I figured they would have tried to mitigate how it would impact the neig...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
It doesn't seem like there's been any work done on the north end of the mall for several months; including week days. This may turn out beautiful, but I have to imagine they wish they would've planned the logistics better. When I arrive downtown in the morning, it is rare I see anyone working on th...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
Hm, the bar was usually full for happy hour...but no it never seemed too busy for dinner. I thought it was an okay place though. We can't seem to get Mexican or Tex Mex places to work downtown for some reason. It is a shame, because I love that stuff:) Is Salsa A La Salsa still there? That is kind ...

This is coming along very nicely. Their website is now up and running. Interesting to note that they have 1 unit under $1,000/mo. http://chromampls.com/

Re: Embassy Suites (Plymouth Building) - 12 6th Street S
Are my eyes deceiving me, or do the ground level windows have a blue hue to them? I walked by today, and couldn't tell if there was some film or lining on the interior side. Either way, it is looking really sharp. Hard to imagine that this will be an Embassy Suites - I never think of downtown or bea...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
I'm really enthusiastic about this project. I walk through or by Gaviidae every day and it is always striking just how dead the building is despite being a central hub of the skyway system. I especially like the giant Y and hope that the feature remains (not sure about code issues or feasibility iss...

Re: AC Marriott Hotel (401 Hennepin Ave / Andrews Hotel site)
It's about time we got something worse than Center VillageSaw this in person the other day, can confirm: is utter garbage.
Seriously, this has got to be the worst-clad building ever constructed in Minneapolis. I can't believe any architect approved this.

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
The Acme complaint about parking speaks to the mentality many still have about parking: if it isn't literally adjacent to or across the street from the destination, it doesn't exist.

Re: Chroma - (113 East 26th Street)
It will be interesting to see how rent here compares to other recently completed "non-luxury" market rate projects. Rents at 2320 Colfax came in way higher than what was initially promised, effectively in the same range as any other new build in Uptown, regardless of no pool, etc. Rents a...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
Well it's still better that they remodeled and made the nice corner entrance and then closed than if they hadn't done anything at all, right? Maybe we'll get another outlet store :) A Nike outlet store wouldn't be the worst thing to happen ... it would be nice if another sports/athletic apparel ret...

Re: 1900 Colfax Avenue Apartments (5 units)
We must have missed it but the HPC denied this back on April 19, going against CPED's recommendation. The developer is appealing that decision to the City Council's Zoning & Planning Committee on 5/19: http://minneapolismn.gov/meetings/legislation/WCMSP-180042 My guess is that this is a slam du...

The Saks space is looking nice. Walked by the street level this morning, and they had the coverings off one window. Definitely looks ready for a Thursday opening.

Re: Legacy Condominiums - 121 12th Ave S
I think it looks nice and the materials all *look* high-end. I think it will turn out looking sharp and attractive. I don't think anyone should worry about whether they will sell, and how quickly. I think the Mill District has proven to be an attractive area for condo buyers. Not to mention, 32 unit...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Topics & Development Map
This would almost undoubtedly be a smaller space though, right? If the Y is so busy then why would they downsize? Yea, Gaviidae has less square footage, but the current location has lots of inactive/dead space (it is really odd). I go to the Y and have been hearing lots of gossip about this. Not co...
