Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
I really like the idea of bumpouts, to reduce the crossing distance and perhaps provide some space for more green space/wider boulevards. Also, bumpouts would presumably be more effective in restricting parking than signs would - though signs could be installed tomorrow at minimal cost, so they have...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
I should be clear that 99% of me is thrilled and delighted that the City (perhaps with some nudging from local residents) had the vision to insist on this five-block pedestrian connection. If you advocated for this route, my hat is off to you. But the 1% little voice in my head that says “wait, coul...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
That's a great photo Bapster! The sidewalk in front (south) of this line of buildings is not handicap accessible. In order to travel along the promenade between Flux and the Lander/Sherman Condo project, someone in a wheelchair must either jump a 6-inch curb every block, or travel a block out of the...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
I like the amount of retail in this proposal - it's certainly pushing the envelope and extending retail activity to a corner of NL without much retail yet.

Re: Minneapolis Density and Population Growth
Our urban neighborhood is a great place to raise kids. We can walk to the grocery store, the park, school, etc... We lived in a suburb briefly during a transition between homes, and it was o.k. (and we are forever in debt to our generous hosts), but it was so refreshing to be back in an urban neighb...

The owner reported the fire impact as minor, and the building still seems to be under construction, no signs of residents yet.

From the Mill District 4Marq pretty much (or completely, depending on exact vantage point) blocks any view of Nic on 5th.

Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
Obviously the underground parking isn't going away, but could the entrance/exit be re-oriented to face 4th Street at a reasonable cost? This shift would improve the view facing the stadium, and make it easier to close Park, if only on special occasions when the crowds are huge and having the larger ...

Re: Portland Tower - 516 S. 8th St.
Heard at recent conference from engineer/consultant: "...many people might extrapolate that lower fuel costs would lead to reduced construction costs, but we're not seeing it. Contractors are busy, and labor shortages are driving costs up, along with general inflation."

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery
I can't picture Steve Minn trying to 'steal' RB's identity - he's busy trying to get some deals closed right now, and I don't see what he'd have to gain from all the posts from June/Ryan/RB. In my experience active developers are much more concerned with the opinions of the immediate neighbors of th...

Re: Brunsfield Place - (915 Washington Avenue North)
Thanks - I appreciate the explanation of how much square footage a mezzanine level could add. And good point about the windows to the right - clearly showing the possibility of two levels on the 'first floor.'

Re: Brunsfield Place - (915 Washington Avenue North)
Question for the architects on the forum: does the first floor of the Brunsfield Place look tall enough to legally accommodate a mezzanine level? If so, that might be a way to make the space more attractive for office or office/retail uses.

Re: Bicycle Drafting
I appreciate the chance to draft, and don't mind if someone drafts behind me. I do wish there was a more formal culture though around checking for permission. I try to ask if it's o.k., but sometimes if there's someone in full spandex on a racing bike, I assume they won't mind, but maybe that's too ...

Re: Apartment Hunting General Discussion
I own a duplex, and one of the apartments will be available starting December 2, 2014. It is about 1,400 s.f., but only technically a 2BR I believe. One of the bedrooms has a second room that can only be accessed by walking through the bedroom. Asking $1,500/month. The apartment has a large dining r...

Re: Permit Parking
I don't disagree with the opinion that the permit fee should be more. I get the sense that the real cost, however, is really the hassle of having guests over - if there are more than a few people visiting at a time, they have to park somewhere else. Even if you're using your guest pass for them, the...

Correct - no one goes there any more, for the aforementioned reason that the crowds are simply unbearable.
