16Twenty - (1620 W Lake St)

Is there a map of this lake shore overlay district? I can't think of any rational reason it should extend to this property other than an underhanded way to limit development along Lake. Maybe this overlay district needs to be revisited.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Reminder, this happens Thursday the 8th. I attended the open house in Minnetonka, it was very lightly attended IMO. If you want to voice for cycling accommodations on county routes, or are aware of gaps in the network, or think certain plans needed a higher priority, this is a good time for it. Henn...

Re: 35W Air Rights and West Bank Transportation

I know Wilf is a real estate developer. And this kind of needed development is outside his experiences, but wasn't part of the reason speculated that he was looking in the northern suburbs was that he could develop land around the stadium that would happen there? Here is a proposal to create acres o...

Dismissive of its necessity. Though you'd probably call it laziness as well?

Lennar Mixed-Use Project (6725 York Ave) - Edina

Few weeks later, and a shift of ten feet, now approved!

The Southdale district's York Ave. is really turning into a residential and retail area.

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics

On a related note, it would be great to reconnect Wooddale Ave across Hwy 100 to tie the 36th St redevelopment area together with Excelsior on Grand. The city has looked at the cost of doing it primarily as a way to improve response times from the fire station to the southeast corner of the city. T...

Guerrilla Urbanism

Residents get fed up with miserable urban conditions and have sometimes take to improving the urban environment themselves rather than wait for bureaucracy to get on with things. One familiar use of this are those little yellow 2D children holding up red flags telling folks to slow down because kids...

An article that posited, counterintuitively, how bicycle helmets decrease safety for all cyclists, inspired a follow up post. http://www.howiechong.com/journal/2014/5/what-bike-helmets-can-teach-us-about-climate-change A summary version of the post is this, to improve safety of cyclists we better se...

My greatest hope for this is that they find a way to put in skylights over the arching roof. But that is a wish I never expect to see, I'll be pleased when it isn't car storage anymore.

Excelsior is also owned by the County, they'd have to sign off on that. When this was built there was a snowball chance in hell Hennepin would put in a two lane roundabout on this road.

Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

One reason for the six-foot width is the city is committing to clearing all these new sidewalks of snow in winter. As a city-cleared sidewalk it needs to fit a five-foot wide clearing machine, the six feet gives forgiving inches for swerving that doesn't gouge grass or send the machine tipping into ...
