Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)

If the residents of Uptown want to shop there, it would be awesome if they walked or biked. The beauty of the parking lot is that the people from the suburbs can park there, and spend their money in Uptown instead of St. Louis Park or Bloomington. This seems like a pretty big missed opportunity. Th...

Re: Lake & Nicollet

A Strib article from 3/4/03 says that Sherman's plans for the site included "construction of a Cub Foods store, a Hennepin County medical clinic to replace an existing clinic across the street, 300 to 400 housing units, and some smaller retail shops." Not too extravagant - it would have t...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)

From a brief glimpse I've seen of some of the other proposals, this wasn't the most impressive -- probably just the most affordable.
Given its location next to HERC I'm happy they didn't spend the extra money to get Calatrava to design the thing ;)

Yeah. I really, really wish they would have thought a little bigger and taken out the tofu house as well. It looks ridiculous the way it is now. http://maps.google.com/?ll=44.981096,-93.235294&spn=0.000005,0.001835&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=44.980934,-93.235415&panoid=WawAnv_slf...

Re: Nicollet Residences

The building's prestige isn't losing anything by the loss of a few floors. It's on Nicollet Mall afterall. Home to the IDS, Wells Fargo Center, Target, US Bank, etc etc. This has been an empty lot for about 20 years, lets not forget that. I understand where you are coming from and it's good they ar...

Re: Nicollet Residences

Their financiers wouldn't give them the money for it. Remember that Opus went super bankrupt pretty recently. And again, within a couple blocks of this site, there's an entire block surface parking lot, two half block surface lots, and a few fourth of a block parking lots. There's plenty of room to ...

Nice...Opus will be doing the whole block. I like how they have included their apartment tower in the rendering.
Actually I think this doesn't include that 1/4th block surface lot in the corner.

Sidebar: As someone who does almost all their grocery shopping at the Wedge (and walks there), the people who drive a car eight blocks to pickup organic groceries just absolutely kill me.

Re: Presidential Election

I appreciate that the OP included Gary Johnson-- as he actually you know... a libertarian, as opposed to Ron Paul, who is some trollish bitter old man who seems to think that the federal government isn't supreme (I of course thought that this was adjudicated before[1] and the supremacy of the feder...

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)

but people who shop at TJ's drive in and drive out contributing NOTHING to the neighborhood except for traffic. Their building design confirms this. Since when do people patronizing a business in a neighborhood have to "contribute" to that neighborhood? Isn't spending their money contribu...

It's happening. There are signs for it in the skyway. Light construction has been happening for a couple months now, they've been moving Canadian Pacific over to One Financial Plaza--which is to be renamed One Canadian Plaza or something, which is adorable.

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations

Thanks. I should have mentioned that it would be nice to have it positioned exactly on the 45th parallel, but that would put it maybe a bit too far north of downtown. I wonder how that would sit relative to the rest of the skyline if it went on the concrete slab over the underground parking ramp by...

Re: 2700 University Ave

I think Jefferson is undergrad because they cater to the desperate. Jefferson has the heaviest marketing I've seen by far for student housing, and they seem to be endlessly trying to get tenants. No idea what's wrong with the location. Is it too far from University to be viewed as on the bus line i...
