Re: 815 2nd Street Apartments
I appreciate the escalating cornice feature--little details like that make a big difference to me--but I genuinely hope this project does not happen. Infill is needed much more in other areas of the NL and 99% of this proposal is comprised of the same crap we see suggested every day. At least that &...

Re: Nicollet Residences - (455 Nicollet Mall)
I would tend to think they're eliminating the smallest units. If the condo market really is turning around then Opus might be re-thinking the strategy. Build an apartment tower now with fewer small units that might be more easily turned into condos later? I'd guess any developer building something ...

Re: Gold Medal Plaza - (935 Second Street South)
I hope whatever goes up here doesn't match Zenith I. It don't hate the symmetry, per se, but it creates the potential for the two buildings looking like a super block. I prefer buildings that are near one another like this to be similar in a way that makes sense but diverse enough to hold people's i...

Nice. Thanks for the update. The old building is down and clean up of the site continues. Steel pilings are on-site, this seems to be moving quickly.

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - (401 Nicollet Mall)
That's bull shit! That was and is my reaction, BUT, I'm willing to hold off on a final judgement until we have more information. Perhaps the plans are such that the bottom level will do a good job creating traffic/integrating into the streetscape. They must have some good reason for recommending ap...

Re: Nicollet Residences - (455 Nicollet Mall)
I assume this story merely confirms the drop to 27 stories and not anything additional? "Minnetonka-based Opus Development Corp. has trimmed the size of its planned luxury apartment tower in downtown Minneapolis, but has assembled financing to start construction before the end of the year."...

I can't say I'm terribly sad about the theater closing. If anything, this should help force the developers hand into getting something done sooner rather than later.

Oh, the horror!Heaven forbid there be a small factory, residents, and office space in one area. Diversified economic areas are THE WORST! no.
Fantastic to see photographic evidence of progress!

Re: Park Vista (2nd Street South & 11th Avenue South)
The August 27th CPC meeting has this on the agenda, with recommended approval and a site plan . Looks like it would have a solid footprint on that site. Did anyone else notice the pond/rain garden sketched in the area next to where Izzy's will be? Not sure how I feel about that. One of those "...

Re: Brunsfield Place Apartments - (915 Washington Avenue Nor
The August 27th CPC meeting has a site plan for this with a rendering-ish of the project. Short. Randomly placed windows. Very blue. Hard to tell much from that scan but it definitely looks like it would be different. I applaud what looks to be the use of a somewhat significant amount of large glas...

Another story confirming "The Station on Washington." Also says 97 units (instead of 98).

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I think they are counting on retail to avoid the emptiness you are talking about. risky though... Agreed. Does anyone know if the project definitely includes retail/commercial elements? I.e. the "Bike Bar" pictured in some of the renderings? Or are they hoping the interchange itself will ...

Re: Riverside Plaza
I personally love the brutalist modernist style, I have been drawn to it since I was a kid and my parents would drive me past there. I've never heard anyone say they like those buildings. Interesting to see/read. I don't mind the multi-colored panels but the pale pink siding with the brutalist ston...

Re: Third North - (800 Third Street North)
Agree with the above posts. The multi-tonal panels add a lot of visual interest to an otherwise architecturally uninteresting building. I'm still concerned/irritated with the lack of commercial space but I'm swayed towards the positive by this rendering.

Great pics and a fantastic project. I love the street level glass shown in this rendering. It looks like they are paying attention to how it integrates with the sidewalk traffic.

As do I. Its blue and white color scheme should also play off the Guthrie nicely.Love the quirky "tugboat" architecture.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Thanks for all the photos. I still don't understand how this is considered an "interchange." It's just for light rail and the only multi-level aspect about it is that foot traffic takes place below the trains.

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Smack shack at (I think) 605 Washington is moving along slowly, but it's moving along. They recently installed large green commercial/industrial style doors all around the side. From the looks of them they'll be opened when the weather is nice. I ask one of the chefs at the SS truck when the brick ...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
There's that, but these are the prefab sections that are starting to frame some walls. I can't imagine these will be apartments on this level facing 2nd, as the depth looks really shallow before they hit the wall for the parking ramp. This is on top of the newly built first level that is built clos...
