Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development
I don't see the Ryan tower apartments proposal and the apartments fronting 3rd as an either/or proposition. Presumably, there's a significant difference in cost-to-build between 6-level wood-frame along 3rd and a 28-story tower, and thus Ryan can target different segments of the rental market with e...

I believe there might be a presentation to the Downtown East neighborhood group this week or next.

Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)
On the City report, there was a smaller red rectangle to the west, which wasn't contiguous with the main hotel building. Is demolition of that building actually necessary to complete the basic project? If that building is being demolished to provide a few surface parking spaces, it seems like urbani...

Re: The Eclipse
For scale/fit within downtown, the Crossings is a roughly similar project. The Crossings is about the same height, with similar massing and is mostly monochromatic, though it has some angles at the corners. The Eclipse as currently proposed has some advantages in the sense that it breaks up its long...

Will this Target store be instead of the initial grocery store proposal, or in addition to it?

Re: West Calhoun Apartments - (3118 West Lake Street)
If y'all are up for a letter writing campaign, I'd target it to the city council, not to CIDNA. I totally agree with this advice. If you live in CIDNA, it might make sense to write something like "Dear CIDNA leadership, thanks for all your work making sure local voices are part of the developm...

Re: Ceresota Building Apartments
Yes, there were City offices in the Ceresota building for a while. Some of the staff currently working in the Crown Roller Mill (the building across the plaza) used to work in the Ceresota building.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I'm talking more specifically about someone building on top of the ramp as it was submitted to the planning commission. If this wins final approval, can that design simply be scrapped and replaced with something that fits with The IconĀ®? Good question. I think there's a finite window of opportunity...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Haven't they already approved the design of this thing? Who would build an "iconic tower" atop a nasty parking garage? If this has a single shred of truth, shouldn't we be looking to delay the ramps construction? Integrating the parking into the new building's design sounds better than so...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
In the spirit of a poll, if you could make one design tweak to the stadium - something minor (i.e. not too expensive, not requiring major structural changes) that would have a noticeable positive impact, what would it be?

Re: University Avenue Traffic Lane Modification Study
On one level the arguments about density being a pre-requisite to better streetscape is logical/obvious - but they ignore the possibility that an improved public realm would support and accelerate the build-out of that density. The 'must have density to justify making this corridor more appealing fo...

Re: Developer proposes new condo building in Linden Hills
Sounds like the nimby's have already cut the size from 9 units down to 3. Does that count as sabotage? Not leaving much economy of scale, tearing down 3 buildings to build an ownership triplex.

A little bit on the lower floor, but all of the top floors are open air at this point. Nevertheless an impressive structure already.

Re: Mozaic
That's a good point. Seems like that effect could be mitigated though if the window openings are desk height to head height, rather than floor-to-ceiling as on the North and South faces. Also, the Phase I building to the west would provide some shade when the sun is at its lowest (on most floors any...

Re: Mozaic
I like nearly everything about this project, and the proposed materials remind me a bit of the new MacPhail building. One slight quibble: the amount of glass on the east and west faces of the building is minimal on most floors. A few window openings per floor wouldn't ruin the general effect of the ...

Re: Surly Brewery - (Malcolm Avenue & 5th Street SE)
Visited Surly's current taproom for the first time this weekend, and was thankful that others in the group knew how to get there. If the current tap room is the benchmark, the new location will be very easy to find by comparison. Still, signage visible from University (and 29th Ave LRT Station) woul...
