Re: Lyndale Garden Center Site
For the life of me I cannot tell from those site plans if they plan to keep any of the existing structure. I drive past it semi-regularly to get to LA Fitness and they've really fixed things up lately. The glass has been cleaned and repaired and it almost looks like they're planning to reuse it. But...

Re: Washington Avenue
I tinkered around a bit with swapping 4th Street and the LRT. I realize that it is expensive to move LRT tracks, but this change would run just three blocks—from 11th to Chicago—and most of the work could be done without shutting down the line. Fill in the trench, tear up 4th, build the new ROW para...

Re: Washington Avenue
Ideally, the tracks would slide south to where the current street is east of Chicago, then the new street wouldn't have to be so close to 3rd... but that sounds spendy. More spendy than telling Valspar that they have to give up a portion of their newly remodeled building? (Note: I might not have th...

Sounds like the County's survey garnered a good number of responses.

Re: 3rd/4th Viaduct + Development
...The simplest, though probably more expensive option, would have the exits intersect with Plymouth at the overpass and then proceed onto the 3rd/4th one-way couplets... That's exactly what I was trying to wrap my head around when I started goofing around in Photoshop with Google Maps screenshots....

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map
When a street is a city boundary as France is, how is it determined which city maintains and alters the street? Or is the actual boundary on one side of the street or the other?

Re: 3rd/4th Viaduct + Development
Oh, duh. Now that you link to it, I remember seeing that plan a while ago when I was digging up info on the SW and Bottineau lines. I never bothered to read too deeply because it wasn't exactly what I was seeking, but I'm sure it would have been smart to do so. Because then I would have found this s...

3rd/4th Viaduct + Development
This is kind of a Transportation/Downtown MPLS crossover, but I want to focus more on the development side of the discussion. The gist of it is this: as I read about more and more and more and more developments going on in the North Loop , I can't help but hate the 3rd/4th Street viaducts even more ...

Apparently there's only thing worth looking at on the webcams. Someone decided to point Angles 1 and 2 at the same thing as 3. *sigh*
On a brighter note, it looks like a tower crane is getting set up. That's always fun.

Re: Currie Park Lofts Phase I
You're going to make me do another map, aren't you? This neighborhood would be even cooler if 15th Ave was extended southward to meet Hiawatha "Blvd" at grade, then continue across to 15th Ave in Ventura Village. What a great opportunity to reconnect the grid in these areas.

The county is doing a survey on the "grand boulevard" concept. I filled it out and the dutifully pointed them to this thread in the "additional comments" section.

Re: Washington Avenue
Here's my revision after talking to Matt to get a better idea of what he was thinking for that "West Bank Loop" that he had as a purple line in the original GMaps version. I also added that on ramp from 13th to 35W SB and reconnected 2nd across 35W, vertical clearance issues be damned. Aga...

Re: Washington Avenue
Of course! As long as matt's cool with it.
What does everything think of enhancing that idea a little more to reconnect S 2nd Street across 35W as well? I can't quite tell or remember if there'd be enough vertical clearance to allow it.

He did. And I ran with it in Photoshop. I made use of that old ROW and took the Hiawatha bike trail into consideration.

I agree that it's an amazing idea. I haven't been able to get it out of my head for days now. So, naturally, I fired up Photoshop and made a version of your map that looks Google Maps "real". I didn't put the air rights park or dev on this map, but even without there's obviously a huge amo...

Hi, I'm Joel. I am in no way part of the proper urban planning world; I'm just a development geek who loves to see things getting built—especially tall buildings, walkable communities, and rail lines. That said, I have a buddy from college who works at URS and an across-the-street neighbor in the pl...
