Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)
Well I think the mixed reactions on this forum alone show why determining "reasonable" is a bit stickier than you are making it out to be. If a developer wants to build an apartment complex that will employ construction workers, add to the tax base and redevelop a parking lot, I think the ...

That's nuts. This area is going to look very different in a couple years.

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)
I obviously have no idea, but for some reason I kind of doubt the city has ever been that powerful in dictating the aesthetics of what gets built. It seems like an awful lot of power when it's the developers putting up the money. Plus, most of this stuff is subjective.

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)
I feel like one of the reasons this seems like such a drastic change to the neighborhood is because it is a massive parking lot right now. There are only residential houses on one side of it, really.

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure.
This isn't directly related to bikes, but aren't there plans to add a new 35W ramp on 4th Street (maybe something changed with the Vikings stadium?)? If so, would Washington still connect to 35W? Either way, that would reduce traffic on Washington quite a bit.

Is there a link to the thing going on in the Crystal Court? I tried googling "downtown development crystal court" and the results were from Las Vegas to Montreal, but no Minneapolis. Or maybe it's already over?

Great pictures. I can also note that the actual road is pretty much done between Raymond and Snelling now.

Personally I don't think you can use anything that happens in a prison as a precedent for what happens outside of prison.

That's kind of my point as well. Whether or not you agree with that specific decision, you really can't enhance the "anti-business" perception any more than she did in that voicemail.

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
This isn't directly related to Trader Joes, but a recent Minnpost article linked to a voicemail Meg Tuthill left after somebody contacted her about changing ordinances to allow for a microbrewery in Uptown. http://soundcloud.com/mnbeeractivists/voice-mail-from-minneapolis-city-council-person-meg-tut...

I feel like that's a pretty high traffic area. I can't really imagine a plaza making the area less safe than it is now. Anybody know more about the Lagoon? While upgrades to the theater would be nice, it's hard to imagine a huge investment without turning it into a more profitable "multiplex&qu...

I've only been to Republic once and really enjoyed it. The only reason I haven't gone back is because the only parking lot at Seven Corners charged me $13 for about three hours.

Re: 1016 Washington Ave. S.E. (Arby's site)
I didn't go to the U of M, but if it's anything similar there would be basically no demand for an Apple store because you can buy the same stuff at the university bookstore, usually for a discount, and for most people on their parent's charge.
