Re: Open Streets Minneapolis
I wonder if that includes all the city costs? Additional public works, MPD, barriers, waste pickup, etc. I've noticed the events are getting smaller lengthwise, which I personally prefer vs. quarter mile streches of nothing between nodes of activity.

Re: Open Streets Minneapolis
My read of the piece is it costs $500k each year to put on 8 quality events. Would be great to add back downtown, NE and (especially) Nicollet and a second fall Lyndale event, but that's probably another $500k for additional Open Streets staff required etc.

Re: Open Streets Minneapolis
“Every year when I have these conversations with City officials, they’re always asking me how they can do less,” said [Open Streets organizer] Rasmussen. Great writeup by Henry Pan about the current state of Open Streets. Half a million bucks annually to keep things going seems like a no-brainer for...

There's now a big ol' For Sale sign outside of this building marketing a warehouse. Think it's safe to say this project isn't moving forward.

One of his top aides was closely involved, and resigned/was fired the day the FBI raid came out in January. His wife's longtime employer appears to be Bock's attorney, and she left the firm in January, around the time that the FBI raided the Feeding our Future offices. https://www.startribune.com/tw...

That makes a lot of sense, actually. I know day laborers station themselves here for gigs but I can't imagine it was 50 cars worth of people.

Re: Nicollet-Lake - greater Kmart area
There are additional fences around the rest of the main parts of the Kmart parking lot, on either side of the fenced in post office parking. The lot in front of the supervalu always has dozens and dozens of cars there. No idea where they come from and what they're doing all day. There's currently a ...

Re: Minneapolis Population / Density - General Discussion
I tend to ignore/discount this type of prognostication but Sean's whole thing is "Minneapolis is the best, y'all are missing out." So I wonder if he's in the midst of a bunch of frustrations that are piling up? Or if there's really something bigger going on. It does seem that a lot of the ...

I would argue that Frey is not necessarily conservative, he just doesn't stand for anything. Whatever he perceives it will take to get to the next thing. Right now that means Supporting Our Troops (murderous cops). And yes, Melvin Carter is the more compelling of the Twin Cities mayors in all the wa...

Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion
A potential Frey 2024 run is what is called a "free shot" - even if he loses he gets to keep his mayor job since it's not on the ballot at the same time. So they (Chamber of Commerce) might find it worthwhile. I don't think him losing against Ilhan will damage him that much and the upside ...

I was just in Portland for a few weeks where I went everywhere by bike. I didn't see many "Portland Loos" around but every neighborhood had at least one if not several plastic porta potties set up right on the sidewalk. They were in various states of graffiti and mess but honestly was surp...

Re: Minneapolis City Politics General Discussion
That level of pettiness seems to motivate a lot of the politics in this town and when anyone points out how not good that is they send Joe Radinovich (or sometimes his wife) out to the twitter swamp to berate everyone for being "Trumpist"
