Re: D Line - Fremont/Emerson/Chicago Rapid Bus
That is the correct choice, in my mind. It'll be frustrating to have to stop at the light at Lake immediately after boarding, but far-side boarding isn't really an option there, with the transfer point being the transit center. Is the 5 going away, or staying on like the 84/16 have? If it is going ...

Re: D Line - Fremont/Emerson/Chicago Rapid Bus
Metro Transit has published their recommendation for the Chicago & Lake station location. Northbound stop will be at the current northbound Route 5 stop. Southbound stop will be on Chicago just past the transit center’s access road. This will save 3 minutes and allow them to operate service with...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
The City has posted early layouts for protected bikeways near the U of M on 10th/19th/20th from 5th St NE to Franklin and in the Como area: http://minneapolismn.gov/bicycles/projects/WCMSP-197539 Both seem to have generous amounts of space for bicyclists and the south end connects south Minneapolis ...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)
New LRV must have arrived. Metro Transit bought 3 or 4 LRVs for the Super Bowl. I do not believe they are the Type 3. Out of curiosity, do you mean 3 LRV aka one train or three full train sets? If it just 3 LRV, I feel like one extra train isn't going to make the biggest difference. Another reason ...

Re: C Line - Arterial Rapid Bus & Penn Ave Community Works Project
Awesome. I wonder if the $1.75M grant is to cover the full purchase price of 3-4 electric buses to be mixed in on the C Line, or if it's to cover the cost differential to make the whole C Line fleet electric over diesel? Also, when is this supposed to open, now? I paged back to the beginning of the...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
The intersections won't be no turn on red... exactly. But once the new signals are installed, there will be a leading bicycle interval, with no turns permitted during that interval: https://3kpnuxym9k04c8ilz2quku1czd-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Wash-Ave-Animation.gif At least,...

Re: Nicollet Mall Reconstruction Project
I don't think the reasoning was ever officially explained very well, but I don't think they would have been able to do one consistent detour route throughout the entirety of the construction project very easily. When buses were first rerouted to Marquette, 2nd, and 3rd, there was a resurfacing proj...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
Same. Aside from the 698, they don't let ANY of their service grow or be tweaked in any way if it shows any sign of lower ridership. Demand for a bus along 494 to MOA? Nah, we tried that for 4 months without any sort of advertising and it didn't work. Private bus service, isn't is just flawless? To...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
SW Transit routes 684 and 694 will be suspended and replaced with flex circulator routes. https://swtransit.org/route-alerts/route-684-suspension/ I like the concept, especially since it gives more coverage and service than the 694. Hopefully it works out. It's unfortunate they didn't tweak this se...

Re: Washington Avenue (reconstruction, restriping, etc.)
Does anyone know when the raised bike lanes on Washington are supposed to be open? The street itself is all completed for the most part that I've seen but they've still got bike lane closed signs blocking the new raised lanes that look pretty done to me. What are they waiting on? They're waiting un...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
One thing I'm confused about is that I looked at the presentation slides from February. It said Bidirectional signaling would be installed from Target field to US Bank Stadium station. I haven't seen any evidence of that yet, or maybe I missed something, they also took out the train signals between...

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
It's entirely possible that a well timed smart traffic system would make things better for both cars and LRT. Agreed. I think what they mean is if there's no train, there's no bar signal. At some of the lights, when there's a train signal and no train, no one is allowed to move. This eliminates that.

Another benefit of a sales tax is that it captures revenue from people visiting the area. Many of them use/benefit from our transit system. This way, they help pay for it.

Re: Fantasy maps
The only reason we keep the Gold Line called as such is to prevent Ramsey County from getting mad about all the LRT getting built in Hennepin. To a lesser extent, same goes for the Red and Orange, though I wonder if that'll change now that we don't care so much about what Dakota County thinks about...

Re: Counties Transit Improvement Board (CTIB)
It appears we may have a transportation bill after all. The anti-LRT language has been deleted in conference committee, and Linda Runbeck (R-Circle Pines) is pissed. So if she's pissed at her own party leadership, maybe that bodes well for getting a bill through. One thing this article does not add...

Re: Counties Transit Improvement Board (CTIB)
If the legislature doesn't mess up any new transportation bill, would metro transit still be facing it's operating shortfall? Yes, it would. If CTIB breaks up, the money the counties raise can't go toward general operating funds. The funds have to go toward building and operating a specific list of...

Here's where they're at on the stations: https://www.metrotransit.org/Data/Sites/1/media/abrt/dline/2017-04-10-d-line-map.jpg According to the public engagement plan , these areas need more outreach before they decide the general l...

It's true. I went last week. It was fun, though loud and busy. If you like pinball even a bit, I'd recommend popping in at least once. If you don't like pinball, do not bother. They did have a really good selection of games. My two favorites were Star Trek: TNG and Wizard of Oz. So elaborate! Also,...
