Re: Downtown Restaurant News
i think your description of a "high concentration" of begging and loitering is not accurate. Really? When is the last time you walked down Nicollet? "Too many" loiterers might be subjective, but "higher concentration" than other areas of downtown I can't waste my time ...

Re: Downtown Restaurant News
Nicollet is a funny place, because the street and the skyways are an interesting observation of socioeconomic divide. Gerbil tunnels have a bunch of young finance and target middle managers talking about which prekindergarten to enroll their kids in or what trim package their new Hyundai Santa Fe ha...

Re: Hines Office Project - (350 North Fifth Street)
I don't believe it is the same, this one was proposed for the southeast side of the freeway viaduct. Also why is being called dock street building #3? There's only 1 dock street bldg right now?

Re: Shapco Printing Site - (524 Fifth Street North)
Yep, and a nice glass building makes a better gateway than a stinky one story industrial printing building. What's an example of a building you were hoping for? The walker? Oh wait, probably everyone is disappointed because they thought this was going to be the new 100 story skyscraper. Be The Match...

Re: Shapco Printing Site - (524 Fifth Street North)
What were people expecting here? Bemoaning the lack of retail at ground level is one thing (especially since this is our grand central station, haha), but the design seems fine to me. Tall lobby, lots of glass, some deck space and curving facade further up N Garbage Burner Street. Sometimes less is ...

Re: The Interchange
^yup, that's exactly the point. I live in the neighborhood and just got rid of a car. With a walkable grocery store, amazon.com, car2go, niceride, and the lightrail there's no longer a need if you work locally. Thats great for those who work locally or on a transit route. But I would bet that is th...

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
http://www.streets.mn/2013/08/27/does-new-minneapolis-architecture-all-look-the-same/ This seems as good a place to post this as any since it concerns current and proposed projects, especially the flurry of new apartments downtown and uptown. It's been a concern for awhile, it's great to see all th...

Re: North Loop Neighborhood
That's great, entrench the HERC by routing its energy to enough surrounding buildings to ensure that however many thousands of residents move to the neighborhood, we all still get asthma and die from cancer. In all seriousness though, at its surface everyone likes the idea of using energy from burni...

Re: Solhavn - (815 2nd Street North)
Even though the shoebox idea was addressed, I would like to say a shoebox type development would work the best in the north loop. A skyscraper cannot be built there, at least not yet. All glass looks awkward, like the blueish building by the highway (don't know the name). Brick buildings are not bu...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
Just got back into town after being gone a few weeks so looked at this again with a fresh perspective. Towers are okay. The big brown facade entering the city from the Hennepin bridge is horrible. Building already looks outdated, like a giant build-it-yourself pole barn from mills fleet farm.

An 80M solution to letting people cross the tracks without getting hit by the trains and general improvements to land occupied by the garbage burner without actually addressing the burner.

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
^exactly. The whole foods is fantastic. The finishing of this monstrosity is proving to be bad- those are nice photos but come look at it in person. Cheap siding covers much of it. Mixing of black and brown flimsy paneling? There are at least 4 other different brick/stone facades I've counted so far...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
In my own personal opinion of course, fake anything is not as good as the original. The problem is that fake is almost always cheaper. A fake rolex breaks after a week, but it doesn't cost 10k. Sandwiched brick facades are great when they happen organically. Let them be what they are instead of faki...

Something tells me "The Office" is going to be a shithole. Maybe it's the sign they had a 7 year old draw up rather than having a professional develop a real concept.
