Re: Zip Rail to Rochester
Yeah, the main Mayo complex is close enough to the existing tracks that I'm not sure it's worth parsing the words in that article too closely. Having a station "at the Mayo Clinic" doesn't need to mean getting very far at all from any of the existing tracks through Rochester. I always tho...

Re: Zip Rail to Rochester
I fully understand why, but it is frustrating that there seems to be such little coordination between ZipRail and MWHSR planning to at least have a shared vision. This is similar in a sense to how we plan transit as lines rather than systems, and miss easy opportunities to make our investments more...

Re: Opus Development - 315 Nicollet Mall (Ritz block)
I do like the idea of putting a couple of units on each floor of the Nicollet side of the podium, plus the already mentioned lack of alley access from Nicollet.
Also, there appears to be a skyway-to-street lobby / connection in the edge between phase 1 & 2

Re: West Loop / Farmers Market / Royalston Station
Didn't they start construction on this last summer? They're basically extending the main yellow building NW along 7thSharing and Caring Hands coming down to make way for new facility

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
If we're gonna have reliable commercial inter-planetary travel to a colony on Mars with a population numbering in the millions in 30-40 years, we're gonna need a LOT more government spending

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
I highly doubt we'll be flat-out replacing any of the new stadiums after only 25 - 30 years. They all have separate club levels, plenty of suites, etc. More importantly for everyday fans, they actually have right-sized concourses and enough toilets. A Target Center - style renovation is much more li...

Re: West Loop Neighborhood
Personally, I'd like to see (North to south, between Royalston & Border): Reconfigure Royalston and 6th Ave to intersect 7th St as a single intersection just west of the planned LRT tracks Make Olson Mem turn into 7th Street - eliminate 7th between Olson and Oak Lake (or just leave a NB lane to ...

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Wow, that does sound high. My slightly drafty 1900 SSP house uses $150 - $200 of gas per month in the winter - and that includes the water heater and dryer.
Of course, we keep the temp set at 66

Re: 4Marq - (313' - 30 Stories)
Was that $200 for the entire winter or each month? I thought the gas ones were around $40 / Month for heating.
On the flip side, Magic Paks are more efficient at cooling then the old boiler baseboard / wall shaker AC combo

Of course, the REAL benefit of Magic Paks is pawning off the heating expenses to the individual residents rather than the building paying for it. It's a back door rent increase

Re: Ayd Mill Road
Right, if Ayd Mill gets a freeway link to 94, Snelling should lose trunk highway status south of 94. That actually seems pretty likely. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if MNDOT already had internal discussions about turning it back to Ramsey County south of I-94. I'd bet St Paul wouldn't want to give...

Re: St. Louis Park - General Topics
I'd have to agree. Hockey can be expensive, but it doesn't have to be. During my childhood in Thief River in the 80's, there were 2 city-maintained rinks set up on vacant lots every year within half a mile if my house. We had a rink at our elementary school. They were for family skating and for pond...

Re: I'm on a Boat!
How about this idea: They privately fund an extension of the St. Paul Union Depot concourse over Shepard Road, to a new (but slightly moved) Lambert's Landing. This would make SPUD truly multimodal (CRUISE SHIPS, BABY!) and leverage existing facilities (parking, LRT, etc). It would also provide a s...

Re: Duluth Transportation Infrastructure
Didn't that plan include a full cloverleaf at Lake Ave?
thank god that never happened
(and, too bad 35E through St Paul didn't compromise in this manner rather than the "parkway" it did. Cut-and Cover would have been sooo much better for everyone)

I think our highway network size is a combination of relatively large sized state, flat geography, relatively dispersed population, and no large roadless areas (ie mountains)

Re: South St. Paul and West St. Paul
I think there used to be a much bigger hangup over cities crossing the county line. Obviously it doesn't matter anymore (see St Cloud, etc), but it was such a big deal that when St Paul annexed the current West Side, Ramsey Co took it over from Dakota Co. And on twincitizen's point, I personally wou...
