Re: Green Line (Central)

My guess is that they used a Type I LRV because they have such a long service history that MT would know for sure whether a problem encountered was due to the car or the track; the Siemens are so new that if there had been a problem, the operators might have more trouble determining what was causin...

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

It was discussed previously, but this is a self-raising crane. It can't be too much taller than the building under construction because (1) it would actually make it more difficult to operate and (2) it needs to brace itself off of the building. Yup, I'm aware of how they work. I've seen the Youtub...

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)

They're going to have to raise that crane up, aren't they? It doesn't look very high.

Re: MSP Airport

Literally the next sentence in the article I linked
Honeywell and Safran believe this could amount to a four-percent fuel saving over the course of a year, also factoring in the effect the additional weight of the system has on planes' efficiency.
:P :)

Re: MSP Airport

Nice. I wonder if that 150 gallons of fuel saved includes the extra fuel burned due to the weight of the motors?

Re: Nic on Fifth - (455 Nicollet Mall)

^^^I have no idea why they shut the webcam off. So i'm not much help. My guess is 4Marq will break ground soon and it will eventually block the angle they had the camera focused. Or the angle would have been more focused on that project than theirs? If that was the case hopefully they will set it u...

Re: U.S. 52

I was. Left Minneapolis early Saturday morning and spent most of the day Saturday near Durand, WI. Left Durand for Decorah just as it started to rain late Saturday afternoon. Came back to Minneapolis Sunday afternoon. MN 43 from Winona to Mabel was one of the prettiest drives I've ever done. Nice. ...

Re: U.S. 52

Just drove 52 from south of the MN border up to the cities yesterday afternoon. I was shocked at how much traffic there was for a Sunday. I suppose I should go through and look at MNDOT's counts, but it seemed to have much more traffic than I've ever seen on I-90 or I-80. Honestly, the traffic volu...

Re: MSP Airport

First Air France flight to MSP of the summer season in the air. I believe this is the first time MSP has seen regularly scheduled service on an A340.

Re: Green Line (Central)

Finance & Commerce has a paywalled article about the Lowertown O&M facility. Here's one detail I know folks have asked about -- The facility can handle up to 35 LRVs, so most of the Green Line vehicles will be stored there, but some (12, according to the article) will be stored at the Frank...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

Beginning Saturday, May 18 Attention Hiawatha Line customers! Effective May 18, the Hiawatha Line will become the METRO Blue Line. The change is part of a larger effort to brand and identify the region’s developing network of light-rail transit (LRT) and bus-rapid transit (BRT). We’re now transitio...

Re: Green Line (Central)

The kvetch here is that there are some low walls so that people feel protected from traffic and to cut down on random crosswalking? And they've created an uncrossable chasm? There must be some greater miscarriage of justice somewhere that we can get worked up over. Yeah wow. I can't believe this is...

Developers want to close Park and Portland... Could this have to do with the development of the Star Tribune blocks? Maybe it's all tied together!

Um... EFF that! No way to closing Portland.

Interesting: There is a temporary wall up from the old Hooters to about half of the old Pancheros. Wonder if this is just going to be demolition, or if they have a tennant?
