Re: Rex 26 - 2601 Lyndale Ave S
Pretty much every project is built in the face of virulent opposition from the neighborhood. It doesn't even matter, apparently, if you and your neighbors have deep enough pockets to pursue things all the way to the Minnesota Supreme Court: the developer *always* wins.

I believe it’s that the house always wins: http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20120816-travelwise-casino-design-and-why-the-house-always-wins Lol! Almost invariably the house loses and the apartment building wins. In this case multiple houses lost. The city wants tax base and the developer wants to tu...

Re: Rex 26 - 2601 Lyndale Ave S
MinnPost wrote a piece on this project. It may be in jeopardy according to the author. https://www.minnpost.com/politics-policy/2018/02/how-one-minneapolis-apartment-project-encapsulates-many-complexities-urban-d Yes, they're making Gerberding sweat a little bit to make it look good. But seriously,...

Other than monster truck races and college baseball, what else can you do with a stadium built to NFL specifications?

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium
I hope we can get more uses out of the stadium. My favorite idea has been a February State Fair like event. The thing is we have so many stadiums, and spaces to host conventions it's hard to make the venues we have worth their money. Hopefully in the next 30 years we can take some of them offline a...

You are a genius, young man.True. So let's tear this one down and build a new one so we can get another Super Bowl in 5 years.Only possible with the stadium.

How about an architect designed machine shop on this site to provide a new home for Acme?

Re: Alatus Residential Project - 228 South 12th Street
I'm willing to entertain your point of view, but I'm have a little trouble understanding your reasoning.I would rather have a narrow 31 story tower than a wide 15 story tower taking up more of the footprint.

Everybody supports affordable housing, as long as it's not in their back yard...Affordable housing would be great, but I'm not holding my breathe. I'd be for it, just don't think it's happening.

According to the drawing that stuff that looks like wood is "composite panel wood-look".
It is really baffling why the tower occupies such a small part of the footprint.

This has some over the top music, but it shows a little of what might be possible using augmented reality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxpD9jVUNbU This example is for fire evacuation, but I don't see why it couldn't be applied more generally for interior navigation. I think it was done with Appl...

Is it really 30 years since they threw Fuji-Ya out? It seem like a really long time.

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
Here's a little out of the box thinking. How about augmented reality? What if you could enter your destination in an app on your phone, then look through the camera and see lines and arrows showing you where to go?

No piledriver action for a week now. I'm starting to get whatever small amount of sanity I used to have back. Now we've moved into the excavator and dump trucks part of the project. It's been a parade of dump trucks down Garfield. There were 6 of them idling on the site yesterday. They were lined up...

Re: Stress relief
Yeah, after I posted that I remembered what Saint Paul did to the Rondo neighborhood. I'll weigh in on the Metropolitan and say that before tearing down a large fully occupied building with no structural issues we should probably think more than twice. I don't think being out of step with the visual...

Really cool aerial history of Minneapolis. Good information and great drone videography. https://www.airvuz.com/video/Minneapolis-History-The-Aerial-Experience?id=593debb813914372c02292ef This was cool and informative, but after a while an overlay appeared demanding that I log in with FB or Google....

Is the former Fuji Ya building still standing? What a terrific location that is.
