Re: Minneapolis City Council and Park Board Elections 2017

Warsame is on team Brian Rice/Phyllis Kahn/etc, and it seems like there has been tension between Omar and Warsame dating back to Omar's time as a city council staffer: https://www.minnpost.com/politics-polic ... s-comments

Re: Cedar - Franklin - Minnehaha Intersection

Wish I'd looked closely at this sooner. I'm bummed at the way they're messing with the corner radii at intersection of 22nd St and Cedar. I'm guessing they're doing it for truck traffic, but it's too bad.

Re: Fiber Internet and TV Services, Cord Cutting

It all depends on whether you have a clear line of sight to one of their nodes. If you do, it should work great. I've had it for a few months and had no problems.

Re: Minneapolis City Council and Park Board Elections 2017

Jeremiah Ellison(Keith Ellison's son) is running for city council in the 5th ward. I assume Blong Yang is planning to run for re-election.

Re: Minneapolis Mayoral Election 2017

Rep Ellison's seat is a big wildcard. If he retires in the spring to become DNC chair, that would trigger a special election in 2017 (date depends on when he retires).

than hold out hope that 2018 midterms will see a flip of one (or both, lololol)
Only House is up for election in 2018. Senate stays GOP thru 2020 at least.

Re: Presidential Election 2016

I sure hope it's before 2020! 2018 the Dems have a tall order to not only hold their Senate seats but actually make inroads. Could happen if the Republicans misplay their hand. The only silver lining I see is that there's going to be a huge Democratic effort for 2020 and that's a redistricting year...

Yeah, no, I really don't see any way Peterson makes it thru the DFL endorsement. He's way too conservative.

I was able to use the same log-in information that I use for adding money to my go-to card on the MetroTransit website.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings

I just downloaded it, and here are the ticket price options:

Weekday (2.5 hours): $2.25
Weekend (2.5 hours): $1.75
All-day pass: $4.50

Not sure why the $1.75 fare is called "weekend."

The grassy site used to be the Bloomington Lake Fairview medical clinic, which burned down a few years ago. I'd guess that the parking lot used to serve that clinic.

Re: RE: Re: Adding onto one's house

Why is this the case?
I think it's to maximize the amount of light you get from the south; to put as much space between your house and the neighbor's.

One person does it, and then everyone does it. It's like reclining your seat on an airplane.

Re: MN House of Representatives 60B

Some other strange things in this race: 1. In 2014, Abdi Warsame endorsed Phyllis Kahn over Noor. That was not surprising. Warsame has stayed pretty close to the old-school Minneapolis DFL power brokers (Barb Johnson, Brian Rice etc). Brian Rice has worked on campaigns for both Warsame and Kahn. 2. ...

Over the past year, the City closed down 29th Ave to car traffic where it crosses the Midtown Greenway. Apparently the City is now planning to re-open 29th Ave to northbound car traffic. See the note below from the Seward Neighborhood e-democracy forum: The test closure of 29th Avenue at the Midtown...

And, for me, shopping at a co-op is also about supporting a business that treats its employees relatively well (pay and benefits are better than most similar jobs). That's part of the reason the food costs are higher.

Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation

Ever notice how other retail sectors are dominated by massive publicly traded corporations and large regional chains? I have and I don't like it. The ship sailed long ago on target being the place selling the most toilet paper in Minnesota. I do not think it's realistic to legislate the return of m...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)

The majority leader surely did a whip count for the Dems, but bonding bills need 3/5 majority, so they needed some GOP votes for passage. Hard to get accurate vote count from the opposition party; they have other motives and might outright lie about their voting intentions.

That sounds like the worst. So yeah, things could be way worse. But I would definitely urge people to be cautious about all these online-only memory foam mattresses.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

I bought a Leesa last fall. It was fine at first, but it's not supporting me as well as I hoped, I sink in to the foam too much, and I've been having some back pain. They give you a 100-day trial period, but of course, my back pain started after that. I've never had back issues before in my life. My...
