Re: Midtown Corridor
"The expected cost of the project is between $235 and $270 million"-------sounds like we could probably do 5 or 6 projects like this throughtout the metro for the same cost as the one southwest lrt, and serve a helluva lot more people.
Sigh. Sure, if you can ...

The Twin Cities are getting a new Drive-In theater. Cool! I've been to the one in Lake Elmo a couple times, but this will be a bit more convenient.

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
I skipped to Chapter One, past all the mayoral stuff. Here's my summary of his summary (as near as I can tell - it's hard to follow): Every Transit Revolution route will have five minute service. This will be possible because the Transit Revolution will get rid of all current large transit vehicles ...

Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)
At this point, Doran has authorization to tear down the block building on 4th and the house... Could they just issue an ultimatum? Tear down 2 buildings and replace with surface parking lot, or tear down 3 buildings and replace them with a community asset? It wouldn't fly with the council (luckily)...

Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)
Huh, I hadn't noticed that the house is gone on the site plan. I totally agree that the garage entrance should be moved to the back of the building. It could just switch places with the meeting room, or, as you say, a fourth retail space could go on the front, moving the meeting room to the second f...

Think they can put together a 6-story stick luxury apartment building that covers the whole 34.5 acre site? I bet they can.

Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)
Newly modified proposal is up. Changes include: More and bigger windows, both on the 4th St frontage and along the back sides. (behind Al's.) There's now 3 proposed retail spots (up from 2, right?) with a total of ~4200 sq. ft. of space. The parapet changed. Looks a little better in my opinion. The...

I can't imagine he won't. Frustrating decision, although its good that they didn't determine that ~50 year old block buildings are also worthy of historical protection.

Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)
I don't find that scenario likely. From what I understand, this whole controversy is almost entirely about 1319 4th St (Mesa/Camdi). Oh, I don't either, but I realized after I sent my notes off to the CMs last night that I had just written about 1319 and 1315, and had completely forgotten about the...

Re: The Graduate - (1300 block of 4th Ave SE)
I wonder what would happen if the Z&P, and then the full council approved the demo of the two commercial buildings, but not the house. Would Doran find a way to build and operate his hotel without a small side parking lot, or would he just pack up his ball and go home?

Hopefully Dinkytown Rentals does more things like this - density without over the top little-used amenities. And, like RailBaron says, surface parking, while unfortunately necessary now, could be easily converted to another lodge style building in the future. That's a new low for painful website des...

Well, presumably someone does, or they wouldn't be moving.
It's amazing how small details can really change the overall look of a building. There isn't very much changed at all between those two renderings, but it really looks a lot better.

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development
If anything could possibly detract from the hideous design of the Vikings stadium next door, it would be something hideous like a London-esque "shard" or "gherkin." The stadium is not hideous. I thought I would correct you. Neither is the Shard. The Gherkin... eh. I think it's i...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development
Ehh? Have you seen the proposals? What makes them so insipid? I'm pretty sure we almost got stuck with a block sized parking ramp with nothing above it. I think this is really the fundamental thing to keep in mind. We haven't seen the plans yet. Maybe Ryan's apartment tower is beautiful and iconic,...

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development
Without knowing much about either, I'd lean toward the hotel for the reasons twincitizen cites, assuming a hotel would mean a strong chance of the north side liner apartments in the Ryan development. The longer the backside of the WF towers stays vacant the worse for connecting DTE to the Mill Dist...
