Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

Whenever I see townhome style projects in Minneapolis I always feel like they miss the mark. These are fine, definitely targeting the more affordable market, but I'm holding out hope that a developer dares to build something similar to this: http://rew-online.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/state-an...

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

This solution has been done before, but better - https://goo.gl/maps/U5Pw3n21roB2 Wrapped ramp, townhomes, a walkable courtyard. And somehow pulled it off without 7-10 different colors. I'm sure it will get better as it gets refined, but the current proposal feels dated before it makes it off the pa...

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics

It is very rare for an entire city block in an urban location to be up for development all at once. Its disappointing to see that this is all that was proposed. Aesthetics aside, it seems like a missed opportunity.

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (~28 stories / 280 units)

I frequently drive by the building on 4th St and 13th Ave, and I challenge anyone to argue the aesthetic merits of this monstrosity. Challenge accepted. The design of the building addresses the pedestrian experience with a permeable and transparent façade, canopies over the adjacent sidewalk, and a...

Re: Mortenson / USBank site - 333 Hennepin Ave E (~28 stories / 280 units)

I am starting to think for some reason we just get bad/cheap finishes with horribly shielded (or unshielded) mechanicals. Look no further than the International Energy Conservation Code. The requirements for solid wall, materials, etc. all vary by geographic zone, severely limiting cold climate loc...

Re: 420 E Hennepin Ave

I don't think anyone's saying that the city/Frey can't do that, we're just saying it's dumb to, given that they gave all of those permissions to Nord Haus, the Atalus condo tower, and (I think) the previous version of the Mortenson tower, all just a couple blocks away. Not to mention that the CC bl...

Re: 420 E Hennepin Ave

That is pretty stupid if Frey really is telling the developer to limit their height. If the developer is asking for variances or conditional use permits, the city council and planning department can do exactly that. It's taller than what zoning allows, taller than what the small area plan calls for...

Re: 420 E Hennepin Ave

How does one offer feedback on a proposal like this? Like, what's the best way to be heard?
Are you a resident in the neighborhood? I would contact the neighborhood association and/or attend their meetings. That's exactly the purpose of projects being presented at those meetings.
