Re: Cambria / Fairfield Hotels - 41 10th Street N (former Ramada block)
I suspect this block may be limited by the surrounding crime. Not that a large project couldn't come in and change the neighborhood, but I see this more likely in areas closer to the North Loop. Not so much crime as proximity to services for people experiencing homelessness and a pawn shop. Calls t...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
This guy managed to close two different restaurants located on the prime stretch of the North Loop in under two years. The second of the two was, of course, a hail mary Rojo just like the Nicollet version. I would take it as a badge of honor for the food scene in Minneapolis that we keep rejecting ...

A steak house. What's going in there?
I biked by the other day and you could peek through the curtains in the windows. Looks like they dropped some serious coin into the space. Hope it's successful.

Re: Dinkytower - McDonalds redevelopment
I’d be (half) shocked if McDonalds just straight up walked away from this lucrative market. Like, they could totally open a location in the former CVS spot kitty corner from here. But they won’t, because no drive thru, in MN. If they won’t bother to open one downtown, it probably won’t meet corpora...

Re: Rex 26 - 2601 Lyndale Ave S
That Aldi is amazing and it feels really large inside. However I'm not sure about the 8pm closing time. I get it that's an Aldi thing, but I feel like 10pm is more appropriate based on Uptown Cub's busy hours. I agree. But it's going to take an act of God to change that. I have a similar grip with ...

Downgrade for sure, but if this were the original proposal we'd still be pretty excited about it.
Also covers the "oops recession hit, guess you're just getting one of the twin towers" problem. Easier to back out of a couple of 6 story buildings.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
I did a project for Schuler Shoes recently. I can guarantee you, without dedicated, storefront parking it's a nonstarter for them. Two things that might work in Uptown: Schuler Shoes and DQ.

According to the image URL it's Wuhan Station in China. Really, it could be any station though. All major high speed stations in China look and feel about the same.
I originally was going to guess it was Guangzhou South Station.

Hmm, I tend to see older commuting men. That's why it's anecdotal! In particular women, in my non-scientific observation.Anecdotally, people riding them are mostly in the 50+ age group.
Would be interesting to see the sales stats.

Re: Bike Share
An aging population would be more inclined to bike (and not join the merry "why am I paying for this I can't use it" chorus) if they're able to travel further distances without added bodily strain. Isn’t that what transit is for? Bikes are for 0.5-5 miles, more or less. Anything longer an...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
This may get me in trouble, but I'd just like to hear some opinions on this. Don't get me wrong, I'm very empathetic towards the homeless and feel for the horrible situation they're in. But, is it possible this end of Nicollet will continue to struggle because of the crowd that hangs around that ar...

Re: Federal Reserve Riverfront Parking Ramp
Meanwhile in reality it will be a blighted surface lot for the next 20+ years Personally, I'm not too bothered by this surface lot. It's tucked away and hardly visible from the street grid. I'd much rather it stay in its current form for 10-15 years than be stuck with an awful parking garage for th...

If that's the grand opening, I'd wager a bet that they're open a week to 5 days before for a soft open.
Very excited to have this in the neighborhood!

I just saw this, Scena Tavern space was taken over by the owners of The Freemont, Hammer and Sickle, etc. Opening as Enji, Asian inspired place. From the looks of it though, they'll be making their money selling booze on the weekends. Opening Friday. https://www.bizjournals.com/twincities/news/2019/...
