Re: Mayo Clinic Square
Also, there was a gaggle of construction workers sitting in front of the open door on the corner where the new bar is going at lunch time two weeks ago, so yeah, seems like construction is ongoing.

Re: Mayo Clinic Square
Oh, they most definitely are, but they are dying at the hands of Amazon, not downtown retail.Outside of the BS coming from the urbanite echo chamber suburban retail centers aren't dying.
And yeah, compare the footprint of those Dales to 20 years ago (10 even) and things do not look so healthy.

Re: Star Tribune
(someone recently mentioned researching ignition lockouts for drunk drivers and then being bombarded with ads for legal assistance, which is a rather creepy issue to see), ...a bit off-topic, but this reminds me of a particularly creepy thing that happened to me recently: I'm pretty sure my work PC...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ - 401 Nicollet
Is it just me, or does this echo the teal-and-salmon era that we got with the last Nicollet Mall redo, the Convention Center, and everything else from the late 80s and early 90s? The color is looking a lot better with the windows in place, at least to me. Not as cheap looking. But yeah, when you th...

Re: Gentrification
Is there hard evidence of this? I don't have numbers directly at hand, but my understanding is yes. On a related note, I'd especially point to parts IV an V of this article from TNC: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/10/the-black-family-in-the-age-of-mass-incarceration/403246/#Chapte...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
But "stopping people from finishing" does not equal "physically touching people to stop them from finishing". Right. If they decide to try to block it, I'd assume they will just put their bodies in the way. It's rather a stretch to call standing, sitting or laying in a place a &...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
What else could be meant by "I don’t think that us allowing them to finish the race would make them wake up enough"? Serious question. When they blocked the light rail, or 35W, or Snelling or Washington Avenue, did they forms gangs to physically wrangle each passing vehicle to a halt? If ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
In addition to exterior renovations, I hope they also update the signage on the skyway entrances to the complex. The website could use a new look too: http://www.bakercenter.com/ Woof! I'd like them to have their street-level entrances unlocked after 5 pm (think they lock them at five, might be sli...

Do you know me? No...you do not. You're not following along. It's not about you. How could you possible claim to know my intentions? You obviously cannot. Which is why I did not. That being said, you have no right to tell me what I can and cannot criticize. You can do what you want, but when you do...

Re: Gentrification
Not to actually disagree with you at all, but it's a legal system that (arguably intentionally) disproportionately effects people of color. Not just the poor.Along with a broken law and judicial system that works against the poor.

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
You're not really arguing anything. I'm arguing that these responses - why aren't these people doing what I think they should be doing - are symptom of the problem. Sometimes, they are a deliberate strategy to deflect from the issues being raised. Other times, they are innocent reaction that has th...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
Regardless of your take on BLM's strategy and tactics overall, it seems this event in particular may be more harmful to the cause than supportive. Which is what people said about the Fair protest. And every other protest. From the outside, I think it's important to be very careful about substitutin...

Re: Latitude 45 - 301 Washington Avenue South
So is there still some road and curb work that has to be done in front of this building. I thought there was supposed to be a separate turn land to 3rd and some parking cut outs in front? The Washington Ave sidewalk is a total mess. I assumed they were maybe waiting for that stretch of street to ge...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
If they were doing something very specific that was detailed and could be planned for that's one thing, but no physically exhausted human needs to try to react to such situations, regardless of the social goings on in the country. Have they said exactly what they plan to do, or is all of this react...

Re: Black Lives Matter, The Police, etc.
Have they not pretty much uniformly done so?I don't think I'll be in the best of moods if I find a crowd blocking me at mile 25 or so. Then again, I won't have the strength to fight them. I hope they do this with some class - if they must do it.

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium in Minnesota
It's too bad that the rational voices in this conversation didn't start to speak up until it's almost certainly now going to St. Paul. In all honesty, I don't know which voices are the rational ones. Being opposed to subsidizing a stadium is not an irrational opinion, even for a small subsidy. Whil...

Re: Holidazzle Market
Did I miss it in the announcement? Have they said which part of the park they're thinking about using? Presumably, it needs to be a hard-surfaced area, otherwise it's going to turn into a giant mud/ice fiasco, right? There's a link above, but I didn't see the specifics. I guess I was picturing a se...

The country sure seems to say it's a lot better than a landfill: http://www.hennepin.us/your-government/ ... ery-centerSo yeah maybe there are bad things coming out of these smoke stacks. But does that automatically mean that the alternatives are better? Who knows.

Re: Mayo Clinic Square
Not sure if this is news, but there are signs up pointing to Bottleneck's website. If the City Works branding was there, I did not pick it out among the wordcloud marketing. The doors were open and construction seemed to be underway (with workers apparently on break when I went by).
