Re: Dight Ave

Speaking of renaming streets, I just noticed today that 13th St. between Nicollet Mall and Marquette Ave. has been renamed Alice Rainville Place. How long have these signs been up? I doubt I would have noticed if the bus driver had not announced the stop as "Alice Rainville Place, formerly 13t...

Re: Thrivent Blocks

Does anybody have info on the condition of the Armory? (Tried to find an Armory thread). This is my number one choice for a rehab, but I'd have to think that its use as a parking garage isn't doing this building any favors. I used to park there. It is kind of a dump. Lots of the walls are kind of g...

Re: Northstar

Maybe they could put a couple exercise bikes on the Northstar, to combat the risk of obesity from sitting down for a daily roundtrip 80 mile train ride from Big Lake to Minneapolis
That would actually be pretty cool! Especially on Amtrak or other longer haul commuter lines.

Re: Midtown Corridor

Sort of related to this conversation: How come trolley buses are not a mode choice in the Twin Cities? You get the electric operation of LRT/Streetcar without the enormous capital expenditure of rail or disruption to local businesses. Much quicker implementation. Trolley buses are not uncommon...se...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

494 is roughly 5/8 the beltway, and has two discrete segments signed as north/south :) and the south side is the better side of the metro!

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map

Totally minor thing but I-494 is labeled three times on the map but I-694 is only labeled once. I'd shoot for a more consistent approach regarding those interstates. Love the map though!

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago

For what it's worth, the 1-1.5 hour travel time from Minneapolis to Chicago by airplane is somewhat worthless. If you factor in the time it takes to get from downtown MPLS to MSP and then the time it takes to get from either airport in Chicago to downtown, along with how early you have to get to an ...

Re: LRT spur to West End

You could always put tracks on a different street downtown. Most major transit systems don't put all their trains on the same street when they hit downtown.

Looks like the Blue Line is getting one more late night trip. The last run will leave Target Field at 2:57am on weekends. The previous last run was at 2:13am.

Re: How do you primarily get around?

I walk to work, ride a Nice Ride home from work usually, take transit around the city occasionally, and pretty much only drive to a grocery store or for a longer trip outside the metro area. My car will probably die one of these days and I'm thinking an Hour Car subscription would be good.

Re: Northern Lights Express

I think getting from downtown MKE to downtown Chicago is usually going to take more than 2 hours. There is almost always pretty serious traffic getting into the Loop if you go plus or minus 2 hours of rush hour. The train will destroy driving during peak periods.

Re: Northern Lights Express

I think Duluth has a pretty good transit system. It has much better coverage than Metro Transit, and the frequency on the line between downtown and West Duluth is really good - I've used it for bus trips lots of times, and I don't think it would be too scary for someone who took a train in the firs...
