Yeah, it looks horrible from a future development point of view - Oakdale is not that big and this wipes a whole stretch that would have been productively used land.
It seems good at moving cars safely, lousy as built development plan.

Highway 36
Wondering what peoples thoughts are this - I work near this. It seems it will reduce accidents and save lives, but seems expensive and bad from perspective of ever developing land along Hadley. They are taking out a business location, Apollo. http://adimages.startribune.com/mcu/startribune-interstit...

Re: 2700 University Avenue Development
BTW - it is really a good thing St. Paul loosened up on its liquor licenses - the restrictions before would have killed multiple new restaurants, bars going into the neighborhood.

Re: 2700 University Avenue Development
I peaked in at the construction yesterday- the space is smaller than I imagined it would be, all the seating is along the street level windows in form of high seat booths...very nice long bar with marble counter top - a different approach than the very open, small table, small chairs you see in most...

Re: 2700 University Avenue Development
So Hodges Bend is getting close. They just asked for expedited liquor license recommendation from St. Anthony Park Community Council which they will be providing. If all the stars align with restaurant license, liquor license etc, they may be open in a few weeks. Their hours will be something along ...

Re: Weyerhaueser site redevelopment - 700 Emerald St
"I might break from those who think the street presence isn't great. Maybe the renderings are masking how awful the materials might be, but more important to me is the somewhat neat addition of the stacked balconies along all elevations, with the lowest of each also being an entrance. Feels som...

Re: Weyerhaueser site redevelopment - 700 Emerald St
My understanding is that Sunrise Bank plans to build a second office building at that same site in next few years. They participated in the park community meeting/charrette sort of thing the City of St. Paul organized with some help from others - it was run by the design firm UDA. At that meeting, S...

Re: Weyerhaueser site redevelopment - 700 Emerald St
FYI, for some background- when one of they SAPCC committee members expressed their disappointment in Dominion's plans, the St. Paul City planner responded with this: "In my nine years in PED it has been extremely rare for us to be able to acquire new right of way and park space as part of a dev...

Re: Weyerhaueser site redevelopment - 700 Emerald St
I'm the one that posted in Nextdoor and have been working with SAPCC Land Use Committee working group on this. The original plans for the site involved just one acre park land, not contiguous (parceled up on site). The City, with pushes from neighborhood input, got a 2+ acre park on this site, that ...

Video of sled going throught Elon Musk small tunnel. https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/12/15629754/elon-musk-boring-company-tunnels-watch-first-route-la using tunnel for single car on sled makes no sense to me. Sure, may be a bit like ferries that carry peds and cars, but doesn't it make more sense to...

Elon Musk tunnels
So any thoughts on this latest moonshot by Musk? I'm thinking this is 75 percent of the work of a subway, to carry cars. With AVs possibly taking over eventually and car sharing becoming more common with that, why not just subway "pods" that can carry pedestrians, bikers to hub location (t...

to this questions - "What was the source for the City acquisition?" The Saint Anthony Community Council posted it to their website. Sort of surprised there hasn't been a more formal announcement or newspaper coverage, but I suspect when they get street grid design and park layout better fl...

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development
From an article posted earlier on this thread "Reiter reported that May 16 is a target date for “earthwork and the demolition of Rainbow Foods.” Big Top Liquor is not scheduled to be torn down until the spring of 2018. Eventually, Shields Street, currently only on the west side of Snelling Aven...

Re: Soccer Stadium and Snelling-Midway Development
I work in construction related business - subs asked us to estimate some stuff on the MLS stadium project this past week. Looks like the plans are dated mid March 2017, not sure when bids are due, and these plans are for general "site" work: grading, utilities, dealing with contaminated so...

Re: 2700 University Avenue Development
I heard from folks living in Metro Lofts that there is some tenant arranged. Something about a former food truck restaurant from Omaha?
Maybe be in very initial stages but it sounds like something is happening.

Re: Weyerhaueser site redevelopment - 700 Emerald St
I'm new to forums - but live in this neighborhood so wanted to pass on what I know, as an update on this Weyerhaeuser site It looks like street grid will be largely established (re-established?). Berry Ave will be extended to the south of Franklin. Dominium will be developing the northern part of th...
