Re: The Penfield
Is any of that building besides the facade being saved? Seems odd to take down a well built concrete and steel structure to plop up a rickety wooden one.

Ouch. They fully intend on building another structure to the East which will block the ugliest side. The rest is well screened by neighboring buildings.

I also hope that red-trimmed italianate on 5th survives. So many historic homes keep falling to neglect and students over in Marcy. Those 3 apartment buildigs had a semi-shoddy update a few years back where they updated the windows (removing the leaded glass) and took off the cast iron awnings and b...

I think dividing parcels back up would be a wise move. Smaller piecemeal development could be easier and it will certainly be more interesting.

Re: Mall of America
No, the height restriction signs are pvc pipes that hang from wires, designed to move and make noise when you hit them, alerting you to the potential danger ahead. How this driver ignored that is beyond me. A 800+ lb concrete beam in never designed to be loose and fall.

Re: 1368 LaSalle Ave development
I drove around the site last night. Nothing is being done & barriers are down. There is a lot of general utility work and road resurfacing in the blocks surrounding, hence the lane closures and trailers. I think US Internet is running new fiber-optic.

Re: Dock Street Apartments
I really wish that they would reconnect third street as part of this project. Even a ped bridge would be okay, but all traffic would be awesome, if only just to 3rd avenue first, and then reworking the 94 ramps later. Its quite moronic that the whole warehouse district is so isolated and downtown en...

Re: Lake & Nicollet
26th and 28th work exceedingly well. I believe this discussion was in the Park/Portland thread, but we all can't hop on a freeway to get across the city, and shouldn't have to. As for Nicollet, the lack of a regular vehicle connection into downtown proper should help keep traffic counts lower. No on...

Re: Vikings Stadium
The lobby is interesting. All dark slab marble, terrazo, and a globe sculpture in the middle from what I recall. AGREED!!! This is the most important thing. The 40's Strib building is AMAZING, and could be converted into something great. Anyone have interior pictures of the star trib building? I can...

My Google maps guesstimate is around 4 acres per block in that area, which is about 3 horrifying blocks of emptiness.

I don't think the Star & Tribune building should come down for a 'game-day' plaza.
