Re: Whitaker Buick Site (University & Griggs)
We can't expect every project to be 4-6 stories along university. The size isn't impressive at all, but it's very pedestrian friendly. I'd say we SHOULD expect new development along a major transit corridor designated for TOD and often zoned Tx to be more than two stories. That's kinda the point. T...

Re: Green Line (Central)
Last I saw it looked like they'd gotten down to Hamline. That was about a week ago.

Re: Selby and Snelling
First, the district council isn't exactly asking for a traffic study of Ayd Mill specifically related to The Vintage. Plans for a new study and the formation of the council's Ayd Mill Task Force were under way when the development was announced. But the council does want that study. Some neighbors, ...

Re: Public Schools
I thought the high schools already did. It's expanded too all high school students who qualified for busing before. I wonder if Saint Paul will ever make such a move.

Re: Dinkytown not Megatown/Save Dinkytown
Aren't 19 block walks why there are at least half a dozen bus routes that run through Dinkytown right now? Holy Hyperbole, Batman!

I knew before looking - it's become a duet in an echo chamber lately.

Re: Dinkytown not Megatown/Save Dinkytown
I realize that the people that post in the Facebook group don't necessarily represent the views of the movement itself, but two of the posters are currently referring to students as "transitary" residents and implying that they don't care about Dinkytown as much as the permeant residents ...

Re: Surgical Eminent Domain
At least in regards to the portions of St. Paul you mention, it won't happen. At least not with eminent domain. In the words of at least one city official I've spoken to, eminent domain is neutered to the point of nonexistence right now, and no legislator wants to even discuss bringing it back.

Re: Doran Dinkytown Development
That's not really a great solution. Four blocks is a waste. Just demolish Al's.

Re: Doran Dinkytown Development
The renderings of the ground floor remind me much more of Blair Arcade than of a warehouse.

Re: Selby and Snelling
I don't remember, unfortunately. Zoning change applications are in. Right now there are a handful of zones on the two blocks between Marshall and Selby, with RM2 and B2 in the south and B3 and RM2 in the north (also VP, which I believe is staying as is but I'm not positive). Ryan is requesting that ...

Re: Selby and Snelling
The mixed-use development now has a name - The Vintage on Selby. Some of the architects told me that more renderings will be available in the next week or two when the city gets them. Entrance and cafe seating on the corner itself is now confirmed. The facades are varied across the length of Selby, ...

Have they announced that it will be run by Episcopal Homes? The last I heard from Episcopal Homes, several months ago, was that they were looking for an independent cafe.

Union Park District Council land use committee meets tonight at 6:30 at the police station across Hamline from Midway Target. We'll hear about the new Cupcake, get an update on the Selby Snelling PID proposal, and see the first site plans (and hopefully renders) from the Ryan Companies architects. O...

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
House of Hanson shut its doors on Sunday. It's sad to see it go, of course, but it had no way to survive with a grocery store across the street. I've heard that construction might start this week already, which would make sense, if they plan to be done by next September. Over at the Dinkytown not M...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
The studies are based on CEI which values new riders to transit above all other things, so through that flawed (or at least flawed by my perspective) methodology, yes it's worth it. But I think a little bit of common sense says that bringing upper middle class employees into the core for work doesn...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I could have sworn I saw a render here with a large tower on the west side of the park, but now I can't seem to find it and it's not in Ryan's fly-through. Did I just imagine it?
