Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?
Well the good news is that MSP won't have to worry about hosting the Summer Games until about 2040 at the earliest with the rotation the IOC is wanting and who knows what the games look like then.

Re: U.S. Bank Stadium
At this point we have the public has already put the money into the stadium so we might as well try to get as many big events into it as possible. The Final Four is coming which is great and hopefully we can bring in the College Football Playoff National Championship, Wrestlemania, a World Cup match...

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News
Sadly it looks like the only looks like owners don't own any of the properties located next to this building so I'm guessing it will get refilled with a different national chain and not redeveloped into something better.

Re: Arby’s Island
I would like to see a 7-8 story triangular shape apartment building with some cool lighting that serves a gateway and beacon welcoming people to Uptown. I know that height might is tricky economically based on the extra cost of all concrete construction compared to 6 story stick built so the develop...

Re: The Expo - 215 2nd St SE (285' - 26 Stories)
I'm surprised there isn't more retail in this thing. I would guess retail the entire length of University would be successful plus it would start to reconnect NE with Dinkytown which should be a goal of the city. The corner of 2nd and 2nd should be retail as well. To me that is a major access point ...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map
1. I am aware of the community wanted in University but as BoredAgain said it didn't have to be an "either/or" it could have been a "both/and". You could make a case that adding an express dedicated right of way service between the DT's along 94 and along with adding or relocatin...

Re: Twin Cities Future Transit Map
One of the ideas I've been kicking around in my head for awhile is an express LRT line between the DT's. I think the best way to accomplish that would be to run in a dedicated lane down the center of 94. On the STP end you use the tracks between Union Depot and the X that will be already be there be...

Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)
Yeah, I’m not judging the street level presence yet. Minneapolis far too often, especially along Nicollet, sucks at getting buildings built with great street level presence and I’m just numb to it. Which is so odd because "0-15 feet are the most important" is pounded into our heads during...

Re: Opus North Loop Apartments on W river parkway
Opus first proposed 200 apartments for this site and the neighborhood pushed back saying it wasn't what it was looking for, they were suggesting condos or a "structure of significance" they're words. While this isn't a bad proposal it's 1. still apartments and 2. doesn't qualify as a struc...

Re: Mill City Quarter - 300 South 2nd Street
This is nothing more than a guess that I have but the building at 2nd St. and 3rd Ave is going to be one of the first, if not the first, of this generation of 6 story stick built apartments to get torn down and redeveloped into something bigger.

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
It will be interesting to see where this one goes. It's gone from completely unacceptable to mostly but not completely terrible. The Downtown Neighborhood Council rescinded it's support of the project on the grounds that it was too small essentially. Elliot Park supported the project but their lette...

Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)
The ground level is all glass and either lobby or retail, which is fantastic, and double height at the Nicollet Street lobby entrance, which is doubly nice. The bad part of the podium is that it contains parking. I don't quite understand why the wrap is broken up on the Marquette end, but I'm not t...

Re: 200 Central - Alatus Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site) 483' / 40 Stories
I would guess at this point Alatus is probably wanting to wait until spring to break ground. That way they don't have to deal with frozen ground and the sod is just a winter long way to control erosion and improve the look of the lot over the winter even though it will likely be covered with snow.

Re: Ritz Residences - 365 Nicollet Mall (334' - 30 stories)
Other than the godawful parking podium this thing looks really quite good. It's curious why some firms are able to wrap parking podium while others aren't. The city council really needs to find a way to prevent ramps from facing the street at any level not just at street level. Or at least require t...

It appears that the owners of Sibley Plaza have a new plan for the property. At first glance it still looks pretty suburban

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W
Funny, I'm not under the impression that what Uptown is lacking is a nightlife/cafe scene (though more of that is certainly welcome), but other uses like more office space. In a vacuum, this project is very nice - better than average design, some public-ish amenities, etc etc. But considering it's ...

Re: Sons of Norway block redevelopment - 1455 Lake St W
I'm fully expecting acceptably mediocre. So pretty much the standard for a prime developable parcel in Minneapolis. I was pretty close, it's definitely a step or two above mediocre. I like that they didn't just copy paste every other 6 story apartment building in Uptown with the turret and use of d...

What is the reasoning behind ending the West Broadway Streetcar at North Memorial instead of going all the way to the Robbinsdale Transit Center?

I agree there are definitely better sites in MSP but at the same time I totally get why the TCAAP people are pushing the site. It would be a terrible decision for them not to at least try to.
