Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022
The last time a R has won statewide in Minnesota in T-Paw in 2006. And since then it's like Dem's are winning most statewide races rather comfortably. Until the GOP can break that streak, there is no reason to predict doom and gloom for Walz or any statewide Dem. I'm not saying Walz or any statewide...

Re: Interstate 94
The Transportation Committee of the MPLS City Council unanimously passed a resolution about MNDOT Rethinking I-94 project. The TLDR of it screw you car lanes, build a BRT line down the middle. I was wondering why to go with BRT instead LRT and create an express route between US Bank Stadium & th...

Re: 800 Washington Ave - 14 stories - 173' (Guthrie Ramp liner development: Reloaded)
I really hope they are able to somehow keep the design of the building. While the additional affordable housing will be a great, losing a building that would stand apart for the rest of Washington vs bending in would be disappointing.

Re: Arterial Bus Rapid Transit Corridors
I'm a little surprised there hasn't been a bigger push for the Lowry line based on equity and investing in the Northside. Moving forward North MPLS is going to have great connections going N/S yet limited E/W at least with LRT/BRT/aBRT. I would also like to think that somehow state/county/city lead...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
I've also interrupted the the Committee using Streetcar vs LRT as solely political decision by the PAC compared to a technical one. All indications is that the corridor is going use all the same specs as the Blue & Green line, with the only modification being the number of cars per train. Quite ...

Re: Thrivent HQ & Sherman apartments - 500 7th St S
Or the city could have said the proposal on the backside of the building with twice as much parking as housing is crap go try again but that ship has sailed. And yes I know Thrivent demand those spots which isn't the problem the problem is how bland and unimaginative the surrounding apartment buildi...

Re: Seven Corners Gateway - Apartments & Hotel
These things always terrify me when they're at that stage. It's like Burning Man, just a big assembly of sticks, with plenty of openings for airflow. Hopefully the insurance companies will shorten the leash. If not, state and local government needs to act. Any suggestions on how to lower the risk? ...

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development
Allianz Field tweeted out a map of the area around Allianz this morning to help volunteers find parking. It's worth noting the parcel at the corner of University and Snelling is listed as development in progress. I don't remember seeing anything proposed for that lot yet it's good news if the graphi...

Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development
If this parcel is going to be 18/12 stories I think that means some quite large/signature is planned for the corner of University & Snelling. That's clearly the premier plot on the super block and I'm surprised it isn't the first to get developed. I design of B2 looks dope although I'm a little ...

Apartments for the other half of the block are back. Eight whole stories. What a waste. https://lims.minneapolismn.gov/download/Agenda/383/500%20S%207th%20St.pdf/39812/1498/500%20S%207th%20St It's Sherman, when is the last time you saw a project of his and thought "wow that's super high risk&q...

Re: Role of Visitors and Spaces for them in Cities
So basically the current thinking is that tourism is great so long it isn't encouraged and nothing is spent on facilities specially for them? I would argue if the Eiffel Tower was proposed today would be opposed by the good part of this forum, yet it's undoubtedly the signature attraction of Paris. ...

Role of Visitors and Spaces for them in Cities
Over the years I've been following this site and other urbanist websites I've noticed opposition to any project that would primarily serve tourists, hotels being the exception, things like Convention space, meeting space, tourist attractions and other general "fun" stuff to over simplify t...

I'm surprised they had that many responses to the RFP, I figured the city was going to be lucky 1 mediocre response and it sounds like they have multiple very solid options to pick from. It will be interesting to see site plans, layouts and renderings when they come out

Re: Calhoun Towers - 3430 List Place (295' - 24 stories)
I definitely agree that the city needs to work with Bader to add some vertical circulation to Building D through some means at both the Lake and 31st Street ends. I understand why a developer might have some security concerns around that although those should be reasonable to overcome. It would also...

Re: The Expo - 215 2nd St SE (285' - 26 Stories)
Buying out the Lourdes Square townhomes and rebuilding a version of the Industrial Exposition Building that was on the site until 1940 has been a dream of mine for a while. The acquisition costs are going to be prohibitive when the get in the door price is $700k+ not mention they don't come on the m...

Re: Alia Tower - 200 Central - 483' / 40 Stories
Damn this really sucks, this has long been one my favorite proposal in MSP. As alluded to by someone else I would guess that Alatus is worried about demand for the expensive units top were the margin is and not the cheaper units towards the base of the building. Right now there is still plenty of de...
