Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
Now we know what they want to do with the big lot across the street: I just got an email alert that Thrivent has a preliminary agreement to sell its building to Hennepin County. It wants to build a new HQ across the street. Why would Hennepin County need more office space? They're in the process of...

Re: Thrivent's Surface Parking Lots
Shades of 2006 right there. We all know how that turned out.Pull together some funds and make it happen! There's a killing to be made in residential loans! It's a slam dunk!Follow the money. Lenders being unnecessarily stingy and/or timid is almost certainly at fault here.

Should have put the cops on bikes instead of parking their cars on the sidewalk, then they would have actually caught the two thugs who did this yesterday.

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018
The cynical approach would be to join the unrealistic promises game that Republicans are sure to engage in, somehow manage to lock down the MN House/Senate/Governor by 2020, then attempt an aggressive redistricting process that better optimizes the expanding Dem base in the metro relative to the la...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2018
I don't think anyone has a good idea about how to compromise between "I'd like a job that's inherently polluting" and "we don't want you to pollute." If this is the majority view of the DFL, and I increasingly think it is, then the DFL will continue lose the Iron Range and quite...

Last time I checked, ice shelves are by definition over water not land.Depends on if it's land ice or sea ice. But, when these ice shelves break off and melt, sea level actually goes down slightly, not up. I don't see how people don't get this.

Re: 38th Street Corridor & 38th St Station Development
On one hand, this building meets the definition of looming. Oh, I'm not complaining about the density at all. I'd welcome more. It's the way the building wraps around that small corner structure, like Sauron watching over the land...If the exterior is meant to visually break up the massing that sho...

obviously sounds like another deplorable who needs to go back to trumpland. How one can even stand to interact with these "people" is beyond me.

Reduced battery capacity also means reduced charging time, no? Maybe as the EV fleet ages we'll hit a sweet spot where charging time is reduced and range is still good enough to make it more practical for commuters.

How was that bad journalism? Besides the fact that you didn't agree with the premise of the article. Because what I read had interviews and quotes from half a dozen different sources all the way from homeless people up to former CMs.

Re: Midtown Greenway
Biking home on the 28th street bike lanes recently I was surprised by how many of the riders being detoured off of the Greenway were riding on the sidewalk, instead of the protected bike lane. I think this shows both how uncomfortable much of the public is with riding in the street period. Secondly...

A transportation bill isn't necessary to avoid a shutdown, so Dayton is free to veto to his heart's content on that one, and I expect he will if it ever were to reach him.

One thing's for sure our Minneapolis state reps sure as hell don't want to find out if our fuzzy math is correct regarding who comes out ahead. That should tell you a lot right there.

We could probably automate the entire rail network right now with current technology and save a bunch of energy but our outdated regulations still require 2 operators in the cab.

Re: Public Transit News and Current Happenings
It frustrates me to no end. I don't mind having money funnel outstate to some extent, but when they're being vindictive to the core cities and declaring that the flow of money is from outstate to the metro (which, by population, is false) and acting on that rhetoric, I start becoming tempted to pus...

That building is also chocked full of asbestos so we'll likely find out more when they apply for met council cleanup grants or historic tax credits.
