Re: IPR Building

Looking at the Milwaukee version, if they did something like that at the IPR building, it would be an incredible anchor for the entire NL neighborhood.

And the overall building might not be an eyesore, but at street level it certainly isn't good right now (cracked windows, etc.).

Re: IPR Building

That would be pretty great. This is a prime corner for something along those lines.

Re: Downtown Restaurant News

New restaurant moving in next to Borough. Surprised this is opening this month. Maybe I just haven't noticed any construction going on in that space.

Re: Nicollet Mall

I'm going to seize on this tangent because my morning 4 has been 15 minutes late the last two days. While I agree with the principle of requiring the procedures you mention, we have to keep in mind that Metro Transit struggles to function at a basic level as a transit system. If, for example, I see...

Re: The Eclipse

Very surprised this thread really went down that path. The 2nd phase is clearly advertised as happening. Some units will have a view, some won't and they'll be priced accordingly. The interior units at Bridgewater were certainly less expensive than the exterior park / city view units. Some buyers wi...

Re: The Eclipse

Isn't most of this parking underground? Would less parking spots really equal more livable units?

Re: Opus Ritz Block Development

I don't think he ever said downtown has enough parks. He said it would be a waste for that block. Pretty big difference and nothing to get so worked up about.

Wow, that would be outstanding. There's just too much history and potential being buried (literally) there right now.

I can't wait for the inevitable "this isn't as bad as I was expecting" posts once this thing actually starts going up. Seems to happen with every project.

Re: Plymouth Building Hotel Conversion - (12 6th Street Sout

Gotta wonder what's going to happen to Lyon's. It's actually in the Plymouth Building, correct? I can't see that pub being in a Conrad hotel, but I'd be sad to see it go.

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development

^^^ You have a good reasonable viewpoint. IMO, the proposal above the ramp is really less significant than to what happens to the periphery at the street level. This is what will really impact DTE and help make it a pedestrian friendly district. I thought the city had expressed a desire to wrap ret...

Re: The Eclipse

I guess I don't subscribe to the theory that if this developer gets all these parking spots then every other developer will do the same. I think it's more demand driven than that. It costs the builders money to include more spots so every developer isn't just going to throw in a bunch of extra spots...

Re: The Eclipse

And no, it's not simple or easy or desirable to live downtown with no personal transportation. There are so many great parts of this city that are not easy to get to via public transportation. The people spending money in this type of building are not going to wait at a bus stop when the wind chill...

Re: The Eclipse

There's no storage of personal property in our parking levels either. They frequently (twice a year?) have everyone clear out their cars on a given day to clean the entire level, which could be a problem with personal property all over.

Re: The Eclipse

Part of it too is that people are coming into the move with their two cars -- it's not like they are purchasing two cars after they move in. A lot of people feel attached to their vehicle and may not necessarily sell it just because they move someplace where cars aren't as necessary. Wherever they ...

Re: The Eclipse

I'm not sure exactly what the parking to unit ratio is in my Stanton building, but I can tell you that people are constantly looking for extra spaces. I could rent my second space out for $150 a month tomorrow if I wanted to. There's a lot of people that live downtown and work in the suburbs. I've b...

Re: The Eclipse

So many of the comments here can be so easily countered. A deeper unit doesn't get as much sun? Turn on the light and enjoy your extra walk-in closet. Ha, exactly. I can guarantee you Stanton doesn't give a rip about how much space is in between the two towers. He cares about square footage per uni...

Re: The Eclipse

Now that I've seen the pics from the original buildings Bapster2006 posted, it's exactly what I'm talking about in my post yesterday. A much more dramatic, taller and skillfully architectural design in Minneapolis, replaced by a much duller, shorter, boxier rendering. Another foul ball for the &quo...
